@Feline1 - Thats exactly what im after.. What make/model fan is it? (Silenx by any chance?)
@jimfowler - Thanks, that gives me a good idea now of its loudness, which seems very low yet still just audible from what you described. Its got good reviews.
I think i will just get this fan and use the "Low Noise Adapter" it comes with like you said to spin the fan @ either 2400 or 1600 RPMs.
While we are on this topic..
Im pretty sure the only reason Akai put a fan in the 4000 was to cool the unit/Hard Drive down. So even not using any fan at all (if youve installed an SSD/CF card) should be fine. Why are there no fans in the other older mpc's without HD's installed
