UAD APOLLO AND MPC RENN

So i've had this problem before 1.3 dropped but thought maybe the update would fix it. Wanted to know if anyone else is having this issue. People with UAD know the reason you have them is so you can open up their plug ins and not tax your computer. So I have a Renn project open and I'm putting a neve 1073 plug in from the Apollo on the track mixer. It spikes my computer CPU Meter on the Renn. The mete will be at 0 before ( i have an 8g i7 mbp) I put one 1073 eq on and it spikes to 100 percent CPU taxing. Then I get bad latency and what not. Wanted to know if I was doing something to cause this to happen or if any other UAD users have had this issue.

I had this issue when using the Apollo w/Firewire on OSX. When I switched to Thunderbolt, the issue went away. I reported this to Akai.

Thanks for the heads up Jah! I was gonna pick up Thunderbolt sooner or later anyway. Out of curiostiy have you tried to put like a ssl channel strip on your mpc tracks and in a sense mix your song in the REnn using UAD plugs? How are you using your apollo with your Renn?

I have the Apollo's outputs connected to my Studio Monitors. Then I have the Ren's Main Outs connected to the inputs in the Apollo. This allows me to use the Ren's audio driver or the Apollo's audio driver. I currently use the basic FX plugins that ship with the Apollo. I did recently purchase the Studer plugin. After demo'ing the Neve plugins, I wmay invest in the Neve bundle.

For us folks that have smaller interfaces what's the best solution? I am thinking about buying a UAD quad. I'm not using the Ren outs on anything. Everything is routed to the
Apogee Duet 2. Should I run the Ren as a plugin inLogin and see how it works in Logic?

I had some hiccups/CPU peaks/loud noise with Apollo in the begininning (MPC 1.0/1.1) but since updating to Akai 1.2 and constantly updating Apollo, everything works fine for me.

I connected Apollo as followed:
Apollo Firewire - IMAC Thunderbolt
Ren Outs - Apollo Ins
Ren Ins - Apollo Outs
Apollo Main Outs - Presonus Monitor Station
Monitor Station - Hs80 + Sub

Neve 88RS - Awesome Emu of the real one
Studer and Ampex - You will love these ones, great for that gritty feel
Fatso - throw it in parallel on your drums and you get them hard knocking

Heres a list which plugs I purchased, if somebody need a recommendation/advice to buy or not:
Classic Bundle + Pultec Pro - Ampex - Studer - Fatso - Manley - Shadow Hill -
Lexicon - Spl Vitalizer - VOG
Besides I use:
Waves SSL bundle - NI Transient Designer

I have yet to install the latest software update to the Apollo. But I will do so and try out the new plugins.

Regarding the Neve plugins....simply amazing. I just used one of the presets and it quickly brought to life a sample I had on a track. But good gosh these plugins are not exactly cheap.

I have no advice on using the Ren as a plugin inside Logic. It frustrates me more than anything mainly because I don't like and not well-versed on the ins/outs of Logic.

I have logic and you could do that. It actually runs well in logic at 1.3 there's a YouTube video on how to set it up. And just remember you sample via side chain on the Renn in plug in mode. I have the UAD Quad and I'm loving it. It's a very good setup for me.

Also check out the UAD API stuff. It's crazy good. I was looking at getting the ssl or neve channel strip as well. They are pricey may have to wait the the Xmas sale. I have quite a few of their plugs already. Need to maximize those.

I really wanna thank you guys for this thread! I purchased an Apollo Duo two months ago after reading up on this thread and others. Totally sold! And yes JAH that Fatso gets my drums knocking!

I'm still using FW as cause my Macbook Pro isn't equipped with TBolt. I've had to power cycle my Apollo to keep the CPU spike issue from happening. For those having the Tbolt interface, Are you not getting the CPU spike in the Ren at all anymore?

The CPU spikes disappeared when I started using Thuderbolt.

Looks like I need a new Mac w/Thunderbolt....

Is the spike you are seeing just momentarily?

Hey, I don't have an Apollo but I do have a UAD2 Express Card. I have the same problem. Anybody got any ideas for this? I did pass this along to Akai tech support. Anyway, using the thunderbolt option for Apollo seems like an expensive route since you have to buy thunderbolt option separately. Akai need to fix this. When I want to use my UAD plugins I just export my tracks from Ren into Logic. It sucks but this is the only way for me at the moment. If Logic can run UAD 2 plugins just fine, why the Ren can't?
