Thats interesting that everyone chose the 3000 reissue.

A fine looking machine to be sure.

But I would have (and did) said the 2500 SE by far!

Also considering its sleeker frame compared to the BBFO's.

(Big Beautiful First Ones.)

No offense to 4000 and 2000 owners,
but other then rightfully respected for their functionality,
those are the ugliest ones IMO.

I use a 4000 every day, and even I admit that it is ugly

My reasoning for the 3000 LE is that in person, the 2500 doesn't hold a candle to it as far as build quality or looks. The 2500 just looks cheap in comparison.

My first choice for factory released MPCs would be the MPC3000LE. Looking at it in photos, the notes/staves look pretty lame, but in use, I really don't notice them at all.

My second choice would be the orange MPC2000XL-SE2.

I really don't like the standard Akai computer beige colour, reminds me too much of older style computer case colours.

For aftermarket MPC custom colours, I really like Ghost's blacked out MPC4000 mentioned previously (except for the dodgy misaligned lines/text above the pads), and I like what MPC-Stuff parts enabled me to do with my MPC2500, I like it a lot more than the factory part colours...

I've never seen a 2500 in person.

But I've seen its Nukai brethren in general.

At the very least,
you can say that Nukai generally makes attractive machines.

(Just dont touch them.)

It seems that stringent build quality is as passe as the quality of the music it makes.

(Eh! Whatcha gunna du?!)

Also,
functionality can (and should) trump looks.

The 1000 isn't much to look at.

Sure you can dress it up a bit,
but its still a brick with pads on it.

The 2500 is a vastly handsomer machine.

But I chose the 1000 over the 2500 because it functionally does everything that the 2500 does.
(We'll take for granted that every 1000/2500 has JJos on it.)

And the looks, the tilt screen and the number pad were not an attractive enough exchange for the difference in physical real estate and portability.

IMO.

Looks are most important in a "most beautiful mpc" thread, not functionality.

I liked my 2500 (returned it because buttons died in a week) and 1000, but I needed 8 outs so I moved to a 4000 and a 3000 and never looked back. Don't miss the 1000 or 2500 at all. I will say though, I wouldn't mind working on a 2500, not saying it isn't a capable machine because it is arguably the best MPC with the 4000.....but I prefer the older machines.
