Quick question. I installed OSXL today to try it out, seems a bit complicated. I was reading the JJ manual for it on the NDC function. It says it auto chops into 32 sections, but you can adjust that number to whatever you need. If have multiple samples does it work the same as normal chopping, in the sense of, I get a new max of 32 chops for each sample, or is it a max of 32 no matter what? Does that make sense?

Hi, I got your email this morning, but I got the impression you were discussing OS128XL. Sorry, it was 6am in the morning, pre-coffee :)

In terms of small screen OSXL, NDC chops the sample into 32 slices, spread out over banks A and B.

However, you can then hit SLICE and have it slice the entire original sample into say, 4 slices, in which case, pads A1 to A4 will now contain your entire sample. However starting on pad 5 onwards, nothing would change, these would still contain the original chops 5 to 32.

There always has to be 32 slices, but you can ignore the ones you don't want to deal with.

Clear as mud?

Here's a another way of explaining it. Say you sliced a vocal sample of someone counting from 1 to 32. Initially, each pad would contain a single number, pad A1 = "one", pad B16 = 'thirty two'.

If you now reslice to 8 slices, pad A1 would say 'one, two, three, four', pad A8 would say "twenty nine, thirty, thirty one, thirty two". Pad A9 would say "nine", as it hasn't changed.

I think so. Re-loaded the OS to mess around a bit more today. It seems like for each sample you get a new program, but can combine chops from different samples into 1 'master' program if you are pulling from different things. Interesting.

Need to decide small or large screen now.

Yes you can combine different samples into a single program, the programs themselves are not tied to one sample - just set the sample on a pad, then set the relevant chop number.

I think we are all trying to decide on this!
