On the MPC ren is it possible to have 2 vst' running or more, on a single track to combi the sounds together and create layered sounds without having to multi track them? if so, how do i do it?

You can not run 2 Plugin instruments on 1 track. But inside your plugin instrument (if supported), you can layer multiple sounds.

I used to use this plugin back in my Windoze daze for chaining multiple plugins together.

On mac you could try something like energyXT (which I still have a license for oddly, I should download it to keep around for stuff like this)

EnergyXT looks interesting.
So it can load Instruments and Effects and can be self loaded as Plugin?

Have you tried to automate the Effects loaded into Energy ?
In that case we could load a Instrument and effect and would have the missing Effect Automation :)

Yep, it can load instruments and fx and be loaded as an instrument (as far as I remember) and has a sort of modular interface under the hood. You're right I haven't tried this. Even though I bought a license many years ago I completely forgot about it. I'll download it and give it a go.

Well scratch the energy XT idea for Mac users. Apparently they never made it into a Mac VST or Au unfortunately :/ I thought they did for some reason.... I'll do some research on whats available for us Mac users.

Okay so it looks like this would do the same thing for Mac, allowing you a modular environment that loads plugins and is a plugin its self.

For Mac and PC both, and there is a demo available.

There is also Plogue Bidule which can run as a vst and hosts vsts at the same time. It's also rewire capable so this could solve peoples rewire woes at the same time. Also if it you're able to rewire between instances it could also solve sidechaining problems.
If it does all that $95 doesn't seem like too much.

I'm going to research this one some more :) It looks like it's actively supported as well (last update was end of April this year)

...though it may seem a bit complex for the faint hearted :P

Awesome! We still have the limitation that you can only automate fx on instrument plugins but it helps none the less!

When I try to load it (MetaPlugin) as Effect Plugin the MPC instantly Crash.

Currently is the best way for me to just sample form anther vst host via the Audio IO.

Sample and forget ;)

Me too in a way. I've been really digging into sampling a lot more because of the limitations of the VST instrument/FX plugins included with the MPC.

I have a modified Poly 61, an MC-909, and a Yamaha EX5 (all free or cheap repairs, I think I have maybe $150 invested in all 3).
I've just been sampling them and using the MPC sampler to come up with variations.

My newest has been to record a sequence and copy it on 8-16 pads in a drum program. Then on each pad have different settings/FX and then come up with a new sequence out of those. Of course I can re-sample and do it over again. Lots of fun.

Don't get me wrong though, we really need to be able to automate everything.
