Well, it's good to let Access know that there are Akai users out there for sure, as they know it will be a platform that they have to pay attention to. In addition to making excellent synths, they have an outstanding track record of product updates and expanding the scope of what their products can do.
However... Akai also needs to start the ball rolling by sending a Ren unit over to Germany to let the Access devs use it (these kind of things happened all the time when I worked for a software company that worked with various proprietary hardware platforms) - maybe they have already, who knows. Maschine has weak Virus integration as well (it doesn't even support more than one MIDI channel on the VC, unlike the Ren), so it would be a leg up on NI.
But the reality is that both parties need to be involved in order for an issue like this to get real traction, and the users of both products need to do their part to get attention, as I would image that Ren + TI users are not a sizable part of the marketplace. Would I rather it just worked? Of course. Is it totally unreasonable to expect products that claim to adhere to a VST standard should work together? Not really. But... these are both complicated pieces of equipment with their own dedicated audio drivers, so it doesn't surprise me how sloppy the integration is... and to get it fixed, I know how the game is played... so we shall see what happens.
I will send e-mails to both companies support. Any interested Virus-Ren users... well, I'd hope you do the same!
Regards,
JTR
