WTF? So these software synths act as standalone units that make only one sound at a time? And you have to somehow open multiple ones to be multi-timbral? Thus eating up more memory? I thought this Massive would have the same behavior as the ren plug-ins. I'm sure glad that software was a gift.
That's it I'm done with this stuff I'm back to my real hardware
You're getting it confused. Massive is a multi-oscillator synthesizer. The word oscillator just simply means waves. The word synthesizer means you're just making it up from scratch (like synthetic fiber, or synthetic blood, or synthetic heart transplant). A synthesizer can very well make a sound of a baby crying, or a bird chirping, or replicate the sound of a lion, or a trumpet sound by just using oscillators. It's not a real baby crying, or a real bird.. but it's a synthesized sound.
That's what massive is for.
A hardware synthesizer (many of them), already have these sounds made up & stored (already synthesized) in its hardware. This enables you to (possibly) be multi-timbral. Usually these are called workstations (but not all of them).. or something like the popular JUNO's. It's for people who like to take the sounds that are already made by the manufacture & just tweak it a little or add some filters to it. Many of these (Again, not all) come with multi layering capabilities. The layering won't change the two instrument sounds, but it will just play as if it's 2 people playing each of his/her own instrument - under the strike of one midi key
The modulations on the bottom right of massive are probably the best & easiest weapon of all in any synths out in the market. You might have gotten it for free, but don't take it for granted... it's actually one of the most powerful software synths with an enormous amount of wave tables.
Of course the more voices you got playing all at once, the more work you are putting the hardware through.
