My method of working..ineffecient? Let me know.

I play Rock and Pop music and use the akai for basic drums and a few samples here and there.
I record drums into the MPC100 with the free JJOS (3.16 I think,its been a while...)
I put all the drums into track one of a squence. I play the kick and snare first and then on a second pass I add Hi hats or whatever it needs. I take that sequence and that becomes my verse drums. Now I do the same for the chorus etc etc
Next I add Bass by recording into an audio track. I record the Verse part and assign that to a pad. I record the chorus part and assign that to another pad.
Now I record those bass parts hitting the pad they are assigned to.
Next I go to song mode and put those sequences in order.
Ta-day: The song is done.
To save space I may convert it and save it as one big sequence, and then go back and delete the small sequences that made up the Verse, Chorus etc.
Is this the best way to go? I know alot people here do Hip-Hop and Rap etc etc but I wonder all the time if there is a better way for what I'm doing???? Comments??

yea that is how you make a song out of sequences! I can understand what you are asking though?

just don't delete the sequences that made up the SONG... that's kinda dumb... you aren't saving much space at all by doing that... and if you wanna go back and re-arrange something later you're just making it much harder on yourself. other than that.. yes... that is how you make a song on an mpc.

There are many many many ways to make a song. What you have to do is reverse your method and experiment.

Make a nice bassline and work your drums around that, believe me your drum patterns will be a lot different than if you build the drums first. Trying laying drums last for a while, then go back to your principal approach and see the difference.

It doesn't matter how you make music though. Just get creative and don't pidgeon hole yourself to formulas.

**** a formula. I make 13 bar verses and 9 bar choruses, so you know, I mean **** a formula.

Thanks for the suggestions. So far it seems like my method is SOUND. I do ERASE sequences once Ive converted them..I need every KB I can get!!!!
And I always feel like I can do it better NEXT time, if I ever have to.
I think the real thing I am gonna wind up leaning on is the off loading of samples and sequences/songs. And this is because the MPC1000 has so little memory. But before I get into that I'm gonna squeeze every little bit I can get out of the existing memory. This way I don;t have to stop at a gig and start loading this and that and getting into a whole process (if ya know what I mean). I'm there to play not to do IT in front of people.
But if anyone has a better way of doing things PLEASE suggest it here.

I do the same thing as you wondering if I'm doing things "correctly". I really like Ill's approach which is just "**** it all do what you want and experiment". I gotta do that more. Also agree, don't delete the sequences. You're not saving that much space.

I hear ya but Ireally do not want to load stuff at gigs..there is just no time for that...ever. By erasing sequence I then free up a slot for a whole new song..that's super important to me.

and fwiwI never even tried the bass first way of working...It may work well but I cant get my head around it.
