There isn't a way to do this directly with the MPC software.

What I've come up with to do this is to record one MIDI note of the sample I want to delay and solo it out so it's the only sound that plays when I hit play.

I go into sample record mode, hit record and then a second later hit play. This gives me a recorded sample with a little bit of silence in front of it. I then put it on the layer I want it to play and adjust the sample start time until it has the amount of delay I want on the sample.

It would be cool if they had a sample delay built in but this is my work around for now.

Maybe put the second snare onto a second pad, use simultaneous play on the first pad to trigger the second pad, delay the second snare with a delay plugin set to 100% wet with 0% feedback, then you can use the time parameter to adjust the delay from the first snare to the second snare?

Or use a sample edit program to insert .01 seconds silence at the start of the second snare sample?

Akai really needs to enhance the sound shaping tools on the Ren to include sample delay and sample start for all layers but until then simplicity might be the best solution, just have both snares on 2 different pads and setup on so that it triggers the other then insert a delay plugin with no feedback and set your delay time (.o1 seconds = 10ms), and then record that combination of snares as a brand new sample and repeat this for as many variations as you wish.

It's pretty much "nudging" the 2nd snare so that it sounds 'grittier' or 'dirtier'.
It has to have nudging or else every sample will start at 0. Whether you shorten a snare or a kick, it will always start on 0.

Looks like the answers a no as of 1.4

Will the method above not work?

Seems like it does pretty much the same thing, but uses 2 pads instead of 1.

If not, maybe use the method above to line them up how you want them, them resample onto a single pad?

if you want to work that way you need to not to chop any samples and just copy the sample and use the sample edit to adjust the start points while its playing

i do this in ableton its a bit easier than in the ren because you can duplicate samples very easliy.

it an interesting point you make, though.

Thats the thing. There's too many work arounds for a $1200 controller. Usually, work arounds are for small samplers that can't do much like a flagship sampler can. Thats why people upgrade to the high end stuff because there isn't much work arounds to be hassled with.

I get your point and I agree. I'm just saying if you want to be able to do this now, there is a way.
