I love chopping on this, either with Extract or just copying samples to multiple pads and adjusting the points, **** a chop shop, I'm the one chopping in this shop. Your way seems interesting Inflict.

ill, i finally tryed ur loop trick...i used some vinyl crackle, turned the loop on and its weird u gotta hold the pad then hold shift too and let go of the pad while stil;l holding shift then let off shift, its kinda finicky but it works good homie, i truly think its a bug..lol..great find ill!!!!!!!!

I like chopping on the 500 because its like chopping on the Roland MS-1, only thing is that the 500 comes with advanced features. The things you chop on the MS-1 stays chopped and destructed but with Copy and Extract, samples become nondestructive.

yea, i love how simple in is.. only thing i really have left to explore more is the effects in the 500, never really mess with the effects much on my mpcs, mainly just the filters, i need to check out the effects and resample with an effect on. other then that i try to go through it and **** with everything, so i really feel at home.. it is hella simple, the menu diving aint even that bad, its all just right there :) yea, i like the blue too, i soldered all blue leds in mine as well, even for the record led.. i keep my blue backlight turned off most the time to save battery life,.. have you seen these screens, i hear they work and if you know how to solder they are hella cheaper then mpcstuff's screens=====

the red one would look dope as **** on a blacked out mpc500 with red leds for all the leds

Inflict..can you list step-by-step process you use to chop on the 500 like you did in the beginning of this thread

I got a song loaded in, and when I have a trim start set, when I click extract it says insufficient memory

How much memory do you have in your machine?
Can't do work if you don't have enough memory to support the work.
Active samples+programs+seqs+songs = memory and you still need enough memory for workspace. All of that resides in memory when the machine is powered on ya dig.

i do it just like i said in the first post...

i use discard...u need to get the ram card, and maybe discard the parts of the song/sample that you aint using, cause you are using way too much memory if thats happening.. discard trims whats before the st point and what is after the end point off and deletes it.. extract extracts whats in between the st point and end point to a new sample, taking up more memory..

Inflict, I tried your technique out and it's really REALLY fast. Probably the fastest way to chop on the MPC500. That is a true creative solution. I can probably get 10 chops in about 5 minutes or so with your method.

Only problem is if you have a really long sample..like an entire song for instance you will run out of internal memory if you keep copying the sample to a different pad. ANd there's no way to bring the end point back up if you don't know for sure you don't want to chop something from near the end of the song.

If we had a software update that would only set the trim end point equal to the trim start point
, the "Extract" function would be the fastest way to chop. It's really that long end point that makes chopping on this machine so tedious.

I'm going to keep digging in this thing though. But i agree with you..right now your method is the fastest way to chop
