I can't wait until this product is released. Folks that primarily sequence using their DAWs are going to be pleasantly surprised IMO.

No one is going to be thinking about track count.

Yeah, if this can in fact scroll/mute/solo daw tracks with MPC instances, this could be pretty dope!

it's probably a way better alternative to an mpd32/fxpansion geist combination..
would be way cheaper
this and studio one would be a good combination I think.. and still under $600

Akai has not posted any details. So instead of making negative assumptions (typical forum stuff), let's take a positive look at it (typical Jahrome stuff).
I will assume since MPC Ren/Studio users have the full blown MPC Software that this new development will mean with we get this plugin for free or we get the same capabilities.
Potential positives:
1. Multiple instances on a DAW track. You can use it like a sound module. Load it on multiple tracks. You can use your DAWs sequencer to record it. Or you can record within the plugin whose sequencer stays locked to your DAW.
The Ren's current software doesn't let you sequence multiple copies of it within a DAW...which never really made sense folks wanting this capability. Doing so would render all of the other Ren's tracks useless.
This Essentials plugin solves this issue. And navigating between multiple instances of the plugin from the controller? That tidbit would mean users can navigate to plugin instances as easy as doing the same with tracks on the Ren or a traditional MPC.
2. MIDI. When the Ren's MPC Software is used on a DAW Track, its MIDI Ports are mapped to a DAW. They way it is channelized, you only get 16 MIDI channels using all 4 ports.
With MPC Essentials, each plugin can be mapped to any of the 4 output ports and a single MIDI channel. So now you have full access to all 64 MIDI channels.
3. Multicore. MPC 1.4 sofware does not support using individual CPU cores. However, chances are your DAW does. Using multiple instances of the Essentials plugin in your DAW is a solution.
4. Virtual outputs. The way Essentials is designed you get one instrument at a time to route to your DAW. If you have 24 instances of the plugin loaded into your DAW, that is 24 virtual outputs. *Again noting reports that you navigate to instances of the Essentials plugins the same way you would navigate to a Track in a traditional MPC.
5. MIDI Icon. What is that MIDI icon next to the 'Step Mode' icon. Note that only 'Mode' icons are displayed in that area above the grid. Could this be the MIDI Controller Mode that has been 'demanded' across these forums?
I see at least 5 potential solutions of highly sought after functions in this forum.

Lame
Sometimes I still laugh out loud about the beat kangz and that time some English dude hacked the Akai marketing website and stole a bunch of pictures of the Ren before it was released.

One potential negative is the CPU hit...and given the complaints of the Ren software so far...there is no reason to believe the Essentials software will go without it's own issues. And if enough people don't buy it...AKAI will just drop the issue like a bad habit in usual AKAI fashion.

What CPU hit are you experiencing? I seen one issue when a member was using up a lot of polyphony with a technique he was doing. Other than that, the remaining complaints about the software (as far as stability) is using other plugins inside it. And this is not a general plugin issue...but related to specific ones...and there are hundreds of plugins available (to include buggy ones).

I'm just speculating here..I personally haven't experienced an issue using the MPC software within a host. But we are constrained to one instance. So there are two variables here.
One is the potential bug of running multiple instances...and this is a valid concern because it's observed with many plugins that become unstable running multiple instances. Maybe this is also a reason why only one instance of the MPC software was available within the host??
These may be DAW dependent as well. So, how will the problems be handled for DAWs that have greater issues handling Essentials?
Integration may be an issue as well. I use FL Studio and while the mute track is midi assigablle...the solo is not..and theres no workaround. This is an issue with IL of course, it just sucks knowing one button (out of only few) are useless before it even gets out the box..but I digress. And all in all, there is no reason to believe support will go above and beyond for this thing...it's cheap AF. And it's almost understandable.
Can this thing be opened up? This will be a very big issue I'd imagine...the pads are not good.

dont fall for buying a recycled product rollout and a plan c, d, and e...
your $150 would be better spent on crackrocks.

Speculation noted.
But most popular plugins can be used multiple times in a DAW...at least the ones I own. Akai advertised that the Essentials plugin can be used within your DAW on multiple tracks. I believe it should be pretty stable. However, if someone is worried that the Essentials plugin will crash their DAW, I suggest (turn on DAW auto save) or use Bitwig Studio DAW. This DAW has built in plugin crash protection from what I have seen on You Tube.
Personally, I wouldn't worry about support. Not yet anyway. If the number of updates the Ren/Studio has received won't ease concerns...nothing will. Besides, it looks like the Essentials Software is almost identical. I am speculating that may be developed simultaneously....
Me looking at the matter as half-full instead of half-empty...

That's the problem...this thing is going to be stigmatized because it's clearly AKAI just moving the goalposts in face of the conceptual failure that the Fly is.
I don't think that means THIS implementation is a de facto failure.
If you consider you're getting 16 Pads, transport, 16-Level pitch, chopping, swing and 8 banks in a plugin and the controller can be used with any DAW? What's not to like at that price?
Now, if they didn't handcuff the software to one track? And gave 8? They would have had a homerun, IMO.

So is this Runnin on the same software that the Ren/Studio is? If so, have they spoke of an update? Reason I ask is, I haven't used any of the new models so can't comment on stability but reading a lot of threads on here, it's apparent that it's not wholly stable. From what I gather, depending on your workflow, you may need workaround and such to achieve the result you need.
If this is the case, 'how can this be solid as a rock?'
PS, if JAH replies with a worthwhile answer can someone quote it as I can't see his posts
