I was neverfortunate enough to try to 4k. Its likely that if I had, I would not have had urge to get the 5k. As a result, 5k has been my best to date. I have not used my studio yet but it's waiting for me to get back in town Friday.

From what I found, the 4k is the only hardware PC that you can cannect a USB drive directly to so load/save files. Why wouldn't that be available on the 'flagship' 5k is beyond me.

Anyway, I am going to see 1st hand how this mpc software is in a few more days, since opinions vary and it's sometimes difficult to tell how has or hasn't tried it first hand and who is judging by what they read.

The 4K is bloated. There are so many params. you spend a lot of time tabbing around the LCD screen. It is the most unintuitive MPC ever created IMO.

But there is no way that an MPC 4000 stands up to the Ren. While it has some functions that are not included in the MPC Software, the same is true in reverse. As it stands, the MPC Software:
1. Loading and saving is lightning fast
2. Sample editing and chopping is superior
3. Can use greater than 32x more memory
4. Host plugins
5. Far superior effects (Inserts/Sends) plus uses 3rd party effects
6. Qlinks for faster access to certain params
7. 96 Qlinks to map params of external gear to
8. Drag-n-drop sample import (loads rex files)
9. Pad Mute automation
10. Step Sequencer

anyone ever tried communicating with the owners of the akai brand?
Would they respond to a request for some new standalone MPC wishes?

Survey says. . .

Akai will say they have plans for a 5k update and then say its not gonna happen after 3 months like they did the last two Winter NAMM shows.

Akai is a corporation, so there likely is no "owner", only a board!

Folks should have purchased/supported hardware MPCs when they existed. Most likely never to return....

Because they are actually adding features we request on this very forum. There are two prime examples of features that I created threads for and pushed for; Waveform on the LCD and QLink scrolling in the sample editor. Obviously, more code intensive additions are gonna take longer, but a lot of the little shit we've been asking for has gotten sprinkled in over the last year. To name a few:

LCD Waveform
Qlink function in sample editor
Vintage Mode saved with project
Auto Save
Scroll bar on right side of LCD in Browser (my personal request)

And there's several other things being added that WE asked for. So I'd cut them a break, for now! They are working!

ok, i see that akai is really doing work for many of their products, but still the mpc 2500 not got treated as well as all the other product lines.

so i started a poll at the mpc 2500 forum to see if there are users that like akai to do another update for the mpc 2500 to fix the last bugs and maybe add some new features.

let´s hope that akai lives up to their promise to deliver ongoing updates to ALL of their current products.

1. MIDI Controller Mode allows you to use the MPC Controllers seamlessly with 3rd party software. This is among the most requested features in the forum.

2. Host Transport Control is a feature Maschine users have wanted for 3+ years and that NI seemed reluctant to do. It enables the Maschine controller to control the transport of your DAW. When the MPC Ren was announced, Akai received the same type of feedback and they made it happen when the Ren was released. NI subsequently followed with an update that provided this functionality.

It can't be said enough...I wouldn't buy a product thinking it will be continually upgraded. Products can be discontinued on short notice. If this is a concern, you should buy it for what it does today.
