AutoSelect is a small feature implementation BEAST! Not a lot of mentions about this, (Akai creeped it in on us) but this is definitely one of the best things Akai could've implemented! Image

I'm still waiting on my Multi-Out Support for the proper mixing of VSTi's, Live Sequence Chaining in Song Mode a recording style found this Cakewalk/Roland MPC like software and in Cakewalk's Groove Matrix. Chaining Sequences together and recording them (as triggered) Live in the MPCs' Song Mode would be amazing for the MPC!

Include Track/Instrument Freeze/Thaw function similar to this and Multi-Core support and I'm set!

But Again, I have to say little things like 'AutoSelect' are amazingly useful feature tweaks that no software should be without... Again, Good Stuff!!!

For us regular mpc folks ...what is auto select? ..

And another  for me > realtime pattern playing into a song is not in the ren/s yet...??? Dam thought that was the ; to song option in pad/Sequence veiw

Auto Select is simply that, it auto selects: for example, when sifting through sound patches of an Instrument, We no longer have to move through the sounds and then click "Select" in order to actually hear what it sounds like. With 'AutoSel' enabled, the MPC software does selects/loads the sound on its own.

As far as the Song Mode goes, the MPC lets us 'piece' our Sequences together, but not in the Live Chaining manner found in programs like those I mentioned above. In Kinetic 2 and Project 5 Version 2.5 you can trigger/play your Sequences (called Grooves in these two programs) live while recording the entire Live triggered Performance as a Song. 'Unfortunately no one can simply be told what the Matrix is, one has to see it for themselves'

The Kinetic Song creation mode and the Project 5 Groove Matrix are Very similar in their functionality, except you can't see all the recorded Patterns (Again called Grooves and recognized as Sequences to MPC users). Instead, they all Combine into one Linear Song Pattern which is actually pretty cool. You can see this in action in the video in my first post.

It is this Song creation behavior that I find amazing and it would be even more amazing in the MPC. I really think MPC users would fall completely in love with it.

Both of these programs are Old as H&!!, but to this date, their Song Modes Murder both the Current MPC Song mode and Maschine's Song mode!

The Groove Matrix amazing for remixing... Man if we could have a similarly powerful Song mode mimicking it, the MPC would become a new Legend on top of itself!

Didn't know they introduced that. I stopped using that mode because I got tired of selecting the sound just to hear what the instrument sounds like. I need to try this out when I get home.

I guarantee you'll love it being there, it saves so much time!

As I said, they kinda creeped that one in on us...

One program that does this right is FXPansions Geist. You have a scene mixer that allows really dynamic song creation and one big up for Geist is you can switch pattern mid sequence. So you can juggle between patterns and make amazing fills. If Geist handled vsts I would be so happy :(

I know about that in Geist, I use to say they took that from Project 5, but I suppose the is they both they simply ended up with the ability. That very thing is what I'm talking about, should be in the MPC song mode.

They should even use the options found in these programs where you can switch between Sequences Immediately, On the Beat or on the Measure.

Kinetic shows off the Song arranger ability I'm talking about at about 4 minutes and 57 seconds into the Video I included above. I think its this Song arrangement mode that might work best with the MPC... where the Song contains all the Sequence events under essentially one visible Song track, which is somewhat similar to the MPC.

With that ability, you can create the stop/starts of your Patterns on the fly, introduce pauses, and any number of that make the Song!

And all that performed Live while being captured by the Song Record so you can easily relive that moment. The Project 5 video I posted shows the technique, but unfortunately that guy Robin wasn't creating anything too impressive with it :|

I watched the video and it looks like it's basically ableton, no?

Ableton actually showed up after both Project 5v2 & Kinetic 2 and while there have been comparisons like that made, it's a lot like the sequencer comparisons of the MPC Renaissance and the Maschine (including the endless versus discussions). :-| The similarities are very much there but they're truly different feels!

odd...dont know about that... I'm not familiar with Kinetic 2, but I do remember when Project 5 came out...I was already using Ableton (I think I had started in 2002 with V2 or 3) and Reason (1.0) and Acid and at the time recall wanting to check it out though, but was hesitant because I had used Cakewalk home studio and it didn't do it for me....
I'll have to check out Kinetic though..never heard of it but it sound interesting...

You know, I may have the release times a bit off, (with my NDA being long dead I can admit) I actually worked on Project5 when it was a Beta, so I may be thinking about the time I was first introduced to it. according to Wiki, the first Live came in 2001. I have Project 5 projects that are older than that, so I'm a little thrown there.

Anyway, don't wanna side track the thought here. I'm just saying MPC could really benefit from the use of similar Sequence Chaining methods used in Project5v2 and Kinetic 2

Regarding my Idea for the MPC Song mode. Wanted to touch on this again to be sure you all see what it is I'm pushing at for all the MPC user's sake.

A good way to picture what I've been talking about with the Song Mode in the MPC can be found in part of the NI review you guys posted.

Using that video I wanted to help you visualize how the Song Record or better said (Performance Record) could work in the MPC.

In this Example from NI Maschine 2.0 Review, at around 6:55, you see the guy triggering the Scenes in a live manner.

Now the mode I'm talking about would be recording that live Scene Triggering. Again, much like what we see with the Cakewalk programs I showed above. Lets refer to it for now as MPC R-Mix.

R-Mix would allow you to record all your Sequence triggers, even recording things like Sequence Retriggers, Use pads to start/stop a sequence and create what I call 'Sequence Stops' (or breaks/pauses in the song).

It could even allow for live tracking into the R-Mix Song, such as playing in a Solo instrument or a Riff.

This method of song creation intrigues me as it absolutely induces and ignites the creative mode for me, and I believe it would do the same for others!

The benefit of the MPC R-Mix mode would be fast song/remix creation, it's essentially a 'how you performed it is how it'll play back' mode for the MPC.

Roland put it on the MV8800 and people didn't use it, mostly because they didn't understand that it was added or how to use it.
You can quantize the triggers or do them with quantize off, plus it allows you to step mode them if tapping isn't your thing.

It gave the MV8800 a nice performance mode that people didn't utilize.

Wow, that is a shame... That's one of the reasons I thought to try and bring a visual into the conversation, so people might realize just how cool it would be to have the system essentially record your live performance... whether it's recording your sequence triggers or the playing of a live drum, instrument, sound, or sample. It really and truly would be the fastest way to create a complete song or even remix a song!

The Project5 video I included kinda shows it, and so does the Kinetic video. But I figured everyone would follow what I'm imagining up for the MPC by imagining what it would be like if you could record all the things the guy was doing in the NI video at that 6minute 55 second mark.

It could be like a collapsed, yet expandable MPC R-Mix Track Pane toward the bottom of the MPC screen where the Performances are recorded. Everything here would of course record in a linear fashion.

I can't see why anyone wouldn't want a feature like this in the MPC.
