SP1200 users

I had this idea for a while now where basically I would record a full song in my DAW, and then run the stems through an SP1200 like I do with tapes now. I figure it would create an interesting texture. But I'm broke and probably won't ever have the luxury of owning one myself, so I was wondering if anyone on here who had one could run some stems through it for me. I can't pay anything, but I will give credit.

That'd be painful as you're working in 5 second blocks of sampling time in either the SP-12 or 1200. You can probably squeeze 10 seconds worth into that 5 seconds by speeding it up, but the sound quality soon goes to shit.

If you've got a few shorter sounds to hand, I don't mind running a few through the SP.

I know the sample time is pretty short on those machines, but basically run about 9 second chops of audio through the SP, and then glue them back together in the DAW. It would be a time consuming task, but the result could be very interesting.

But if you're down, I might send a few little loops your way in the near future (not full stems).

you should also while you're at it check out his neptune kit on mpc samples...

believe me, i am all for batshit crazy obsessive ideas, but asking someone else to do it without ponying up is not what i'd call batshit crazy obsessive.
try something you can do yourself and make it work for you - dont get hung up on doing exactly what everybody else has said is cool for years now.

we say it a lot, but just having sound come from a machine doth not 'that sound' make...its a combination of many things, most importantly maybe the way the person interacts with the machine.

I think he's well on the way to having a unique sound anyway, so I don't mind helping out. A lot of people (myself included) wonder what their stuff would sound like processed through these pricey old machines, so I'm cool with it.

Nothing else sounds quite like the SP I suppose. What most people aren't aware of is that the OP-1 has a very unique aliasing sound itself when used and abused.

Haha, oh no I love coloring sounds with whatever I can find lying around, and see how it affects the sound. But the SP1200 has a certain character about it, and I'd like to have that specific sound on at least a song or two. I use the TB Time Machine plug quite a bit with the SP1200 emulation plug in the MPC software, and it produces interesting results. But it'd be nice to have the real thing you know? It's more an idea than an obsession.

Is there a rack mount Emu sampler with the same sound as the SP, but with longer sampling time?

can you audition sounds on the SP1200? like can you play audio THROUGH it and still get that same sound without having to record the sample.. or is it right to think that the recording process is what mainly colors the sound?? it'd be cool if you could just run audio through it! then u could just go through into tape or something

I'm sure you will have to record it, just like it is with the s950 as well. I think its been discussed before

You want the sound of the sequencer also. Its part of the charm.
