Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By three36ixx Tue Jan 21, 2014 8:34 am
I have a 2000XL. the screen is somewhat readable...but definitely needs replacing...would love to replace screen ASAP! can anyone help me get a new screen for my MPC???

also, I purchased it with modified scsi hard drive internally installed. swapping back the original floppy drive....but the jackass didn't leave me the power cable...suggestion on getting a female to female mini molex to power my floppy drive to the mother board?

any help on these 2 problems would be sincerely appreciated!!!

the only screen i can find is a used one on ebay for $250+shipping...

Do you have a power cable for the hard drive?

Maybe use an adapter from that to a berg/mini-molex connector for the floppy drive?

Also, the floppy power connector on the MPC mainboard is not a berg/mini-molex connector, it is actually a JST EH connector, but many seem to use a berg/mini-molex in it's place.

the power cable is custom modified (electrical tape soldering) from the previous owner. if i connect the molex to mini-molex to this molex to JSH-EH that came off of the motherboard of the MPC2000XL, am I in business????

:hmmm:

Should work, but without seeing it am not 100% sure.

If you have soldering equipment, you could also get a cable with the berg/mini-molex, and use it to replace the modified end that you already have.

But might be best to use the adapter, then you have the option of going back to the larger Molex connector later, if needed for a card reader.

Sorry Simon, I'm not familiar with soldering yet.. I have a class on it in my AE program coming up though! I will get some rest and post a picture of the cables I am going to connect up before I do the damn thing so I don't blow anything up!

Thank you for your quick response. I will post pictures for your verification ASAP!

You can see in this photo below, that the floppy only needs the red and black wires to be connected to operate, but having all 4 wires connected will not be a problem.

Make sure that the red wire in the connection onto the MPC main PCB is closest to the floppy, as in the photo below.

I assume that you also have a correct ribbon cable for the floppy drive?

If the floppy only needs red and black for power, I'm good to go. Just got my molex connector in the mail today. going to install it now! and yes, I have the correct ribbon cable for the floppy drive :)

ok I installed the power cable...but now all I am getting is a loud BEEEEEP so i'm turning my MPC off and taking that shit out...what happened? everything on the screen loads fine, but that beep is terribly annoying and not normal..
I tried to LOAD and it said no floppy device....dun dun dun
