tracking to a computer

im a little confused about how to send individual tracks from an MPC 2000XL to computer software, like cakewalk home studio. I have the 8 outputs on my MPC. Say I had a drum track on output 1, and I wanted to transfer this into my computer. What kind of cable would I need? Would I need a MIDI cable? This may be a real dumb question but I've never had any experience with this before. Also, can I send individual tracks out to a computer through the MIDI ins and outs too? If so, how many tracks at a time?

So if I have these 2 options for tracking to the computer: through the 8 outputs, or through the MIDI outs, which one is preferred, and why?

You can't use the midi ports for tracking, you can use the midi ports to sync to your computer which makes tracking much easier. The cables you need to use are 1/4 inch instrument cables. If you have a mixer or soundcard with eight inputs then you can record eight tracks at a time. If you only have stereo inputs on your soundcard then just use the stereo output on the mpc. Also if your souncard only has rca connections then you will need 1/4 inch to rca adapters.
