MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai

Hello.....First post on this site but an avid reader of the forums. I have a couple of questions regarding trouble shooting my MPC 5000 and hope some one here might have some helpful information. The pad sensors seem to be going out on this unit as pad 06 doesn't not respond at all and other pads seem to respond intermittently (ie. in midi/sync mode pressing pad 7 will display a press of pad 8 or pressing pad 8 will display pad 12 as well as playing sounds that are assigned to different note values and not the one displayed on the pad) Other times the pads response seems to go in and out. I have been using a midi keyboard controller as a work around but now when pressing the keys the sound being triggered is responding similar to the pads as the sounds respond only at certain times. So when doing a eight note hi hat pattern the hi hat will drop in and out. This makes it impossible to record live drums via the keyboard controller. I also have noticed when holding down note repeat there is a bass drum sound repeating even though no pads are pressed. I have tried re installing the OS as well as re initializing by holding down the erase button on power up. Would a failing pad sensor sheet cause all these problems? Also I have recently installed the ram upgrade and was wondering if this could be the root of the trouble. I apologize for the long post but wanted to state the issues I am encountering in detail if it helps with addressing the them. Thank you in advance to anyone who takes time to read this and any advice or help anyone maybe able to offer.

Thanks Again

Sounds like a failing pad sheet, you can order the parts at MPCStuff.com.

I needed to change mine also of my 5000, and changed at the same time the normal pads for the phat ones.

Hey, thank you for the reply. Kind of a sigh of relief to know it is not a bigger issue. Are the pad sensors very difficult to install yourself? On a side note how do you like the phat pads verse the stock ones.

Thanks again

Very easy fix if the pad sensors have stopped responding:

viewtopic.php?f=29&t=159419

Just take your time, use a sharp blade and make sure the lines you cut stay within the bounds of the black sensor square (approx 1mm). I have no idea how this fix actually works, but it worked perfectly for me when an entire row of sensors went on mine. I'll probably make a written tutorial for this soon as the top row on my 5000 now needs the same fix applying.

Thanks Mpc Tutor for the info. Quick question, is there away to determine which pads are the culprit and this will work best on? There seems to be trouble pads on pads 5 to 12. Or do you need to apply the fix to all the sensors? Thanks for your help, really appreciate it.

The problem sensors will either be completely dead, or will work 'sometimes' - apply it to all of these.

Remember if you mess it up, worse case scenario is you'll just have to buy the new sensor sheet. But everyone around here who tried this got it to work 100%.
