MPC Ren latency/quantize issues?

Hello all..

I have been using my MPC Ren for a few months now, & I must say that coming from the realm of using the 2000XL for almost 15 years, I love this machine & it has made my transition to using a computer to make beats A LOT easier...


That being said, I am having issues when I set the timing correct to the "OFF" position. At times I like to do beats that have a looser, more natural feel, & no matter what quantize setting you use, nothing can exactly emulate the natural human feel. My issue is, it sounds great when I'm banging out my pattern, but as soon as I play it back, it is NOTHING like what I played & is way off & usually late. I have my latency & audio buffer sizes set to the lowest possible setting & not sure what else this could be?

I don't quantize most of my stuff, the only time ive experienced what you describe is when i've banged out some drums thinking TC was turned off but it was really turned on to the default 1/16 so it quantises stuff i wanted unquantised and ruins the whole thing.

are you sure you have TC turned off? I'm not in front of my ren atm but i think there are seperate quantize settings in the main view. those quantise settings are for applying to stuff you've drummed out already, and i believe it is separate to the live T.C controls which are accessible from the hardware screen in main view.

I dunno i might be wrong on that. i'm assuming it's a problem like that because if you're hearing it and it sounds good while you're banging it out it wouldn't be a latency issue. If you set T.C to off and make a brand new pattern it defaults the T.C back to 1/16 which is often frustrating for me and a common cause of problems like this for me.

Just what i was going to write. Its on by default every time you're loading an existing beat.

You can check pretty quick if quantize is on by holding down the 'note repeat' button. if 1/16 lights up in the display, keep 'note repeat' pressed down and hit '1/16'. It's off then. Good luck!

Sorry for the late reply fellas, I'm not online much. Yeah, I make sure that the quantize is set to off, but the only way I know how to mess with the quantize settings is from the hardware main screen by hitting the f1 button, or by going to the right hand top of the page on the software. Is there something I am missing, because what I bang out sounds completely different than what plays back after the loop turns around?
