I Need Help Importing

Hey wassup yo ... Just a quick question. I recently bought an MPC 2000xl but it didnt come with a zip drive so i cant import my beats to my computer so I was wondering if any of you guys can give me tips on what zip drive/card reader to buy so I can import my beats to my laptop ... Thanx.

What do you want to import them into on the computer for, and in what format?

You would be importing MPC sequences or MIDI files, and MPC programs/samples. For playback in the computer, the samples would have to be setup in some sort of software sampler in the computer, on the same MIDI note numbers as they are in the MPC, and triggered from the MIDI file in some sort of sequencer/DAW.

Maybe you only want to import them into the computer for backup/storage?

Maybe you want to record the audio outputs of the MPC into the audio inputs of the computer, to have the beats in the computer as audio files?

Thanks for replying fam, and my beat i meant that I want to export. And I want to export them to my computer to basically save the beat and also to sequence them. The only DAW I have is Fruity Loops though. Also what will I need to record the outputs of the MPC to the inputs of my laptop? I have a mixer and I'll be getting a soundcard soon.

Well if you have 8 output board installed you could use 1/4" TRS to 1/8" TRS cable to the the input on the PC. But the recording is going to limited in quality, clarity and dynamic range. You'll see a marked improvement recording to a dedicated interface. And your FL Studio will benefit from the low latency ASIO driver for all your in the box work.

So your options are use the standard stereo outs on the XL. There you have the two 1/4" to a single stereo 1/8"to the laptop as I mentioned. Then if you you want separate stems, drums, bass etc. you record in multiple passes.

If you have the 8 outs you can send those out to the mixer and use the mutes on the mixer to get separate stems.

If you get an 8 input interface you actually won't need the mixer at all. You'll end up with a software GUI mixer to route your output(s) to FL or any other recording app.
