Sounds to me like a layered (more than one sample triggering at the same time) but it could easily be straight from a sample pack, chopped from another track, synthesized from scratch...

You say you want to make the sound yourself. There's a saying that if you want to make an apple pie from scratch, you have to first invent the universe. What they mean when they say that is nothing is truly 100% from scratch - even if you make all the pie crust yourself, you're not the one who ground the wheat into flour, you didn't grow the apples, you didn't create the ground that the apples and wheat grew in etc. etc. (you can follow that logic back to the creation of the universe)

So you just have options about how far back in the process you want to go. Most people are happy to mix and match samples from drum packs or famous breakbeats, and then they would layer those sounds, try pitching them up and down to effect their sound until it achieves the sound you want. The most common thing is to take a kick drum with a good long bass tail (like an 808 sample) and mix a snappy acoustic drum sample on top (one with a sharp click at the beginning, since the 808 drum sound has almost no click at the beginning). If you're experienced doing things this way, you can achieve almost any sound you want, as long as you have enough samples to experiment with.

Or you might want to synthesize some drums. I've done a little bit of that using a synth/audio programming language called Pure Data where I designed some synthesizers, picked the parameters and effects I wanted to change and I ended up with drums that I still use now, years later. The thing is, I did an introduction to Pure Data/Audio Synthesis course at uni, and I invested a lot time learning how to do very basic stuff before I was able to synthesize even one kick drum.

I was obsessed with doing things from scratch, but a lot of what i learnt was unnecessary, because there are loads of drum synth vsts made by people who know far more about synthesizers and drum creation technique than I ever will unless I dedicate years of learning and probably a degree in programming.. vst synths give you just as much control over parameters and let you achieve unique sounding drums. I've pointed you towards the VSTi called Drumatic 3 before, which is a free drum synth capable of making a range of sounds.

I'd recommend you get Drumatic 3 and record a few different sounding kick drums (one with a booming bass sound you like, one with a sharp click/impact sound) and then chop those recordings in the MPC software and layer them (possibly with some acoustic drum samples or other premade samples from a pack).

basically do whatever works and don't get hung up on doing things from scratch, it will only hold you back (unless you are genuinely interested in learning synthesis etc. for it's own sake, learning to program a synth is definitely not the fastest way to banging drums)

sup peeps.

ive noticed some people use the 808 drums to make a really deep bass line.

how do i do that?

seems like a pain in the ass

would i have to make a keygroup out of one note?

or is it better to get some deep bass sounding vst?

sup pehpz

i gots a drum program and im playing a kick on top of a snare and the snare cancels out the kick. i have the progra on poly and changed each individual pad to poly as well. what do?!

im probably just going to explode so i can have each track playing and it wont interfere i hope..but this is pissing me off.

how can i get a kick like this?

theres a few that come with mpc ren

but i want to learn how to make one sound like that and customize it more.

is it an 808?

i can just use some vst's and stuff

but i want to learn how to make it my self..

should i just ad some bass on top of a kick?

and customize the bass so it sounds really deep and then just mess with attack/decay?

Lol at "add some Bass on top of a kick."

You need a sine wave and a modulation matrix.

hmmm...putting that project off for now. doing what homie said and just **** with sampled that are already made and customise them as much as i can

son of a ****

why the **** cant we still right click on a sequence and just delete it?

stupid akai...

its all the small things that **** it up!

it s because of ***** and then ****
and the mpc ren just ****!!

I hope your question is answered ;)

to get back on topic use hybrid3 for creating drums and then resample and create a kit out this of resampled drums...

I looked in to the Hyrbid VST after your comment to the OP. It seems good at creating a lot of instruments, but for some reason I'm struggling with the drums with the Mod Matrix. I could create the tonal structure, but not a suitable attack. Time to read the manual. These drums tones are too dope to go to waste..gotta figure it out.

As for the OP..he may be better off using his DAW's tone generator and set up a gate to let his Kick drum trigger the tone for now. It doesn't seem like he has the patience to learn drum sound design...I might be wrong though.

i dont know how to use hybrid ;/

im new to mpcing/daw

ive only been using mpc for about 3 months going on 4 i think.
