Has been that way since MPC 60. But that doesn't mean it's not an instrument. Roland Fantom fits the same description, and it's still in the "instrument" category. But it hasn't been a DAW... What I'm saying is that I prefer that the MPC stay closer to its roots, not keep moving toward DAW land. The chance of being able to do the same DAW functions as Logic, in any near future, is nil. They could make this the best MPC *instrument* ever, but if they keep moving it toward a DAW, it will just dilute the product with features and functions that DAWs have been able to for years. It just doesn't seem like a good spend of resources to me.
And am I happy with using it as a plugin? No, it stinks as a plugin - not trying to be sour - just saying.
But I get what you're saying. Just different perspectives. And I'm not going to influence what Akai does anyway, so I just keep pushing for what I want - instrument stuff, not daw stuff. I have a daw already.
ALL OF THIS.
There is no way the MPC software will EVER be as good a DAW as any of the good DAWs out there. Period. With only a handful, if that, people working on it and one main guy, Pete, this is impossible. Also, DAWS like Logic, Ableton, and PT have been building their software for years, decades even, and are extremely advanced at this point. With that said, if you want a good DAW, there is NO shortage of options to chose from.
There is though, only ONE MPC. IMO, Akai should focus on making the MPC software the BEST MPC ever which includes featuring ALL of the legacy MPC features as well as some extra bells and whistles here and there. At it's core, the MPC software should be an MPC, and the BEST MPC, FIRST.
And that is why I created this tread:
viewtopic.php?f=45&t=174450Akai has THEIR OWN lane. They should stay in that lane and cultivate it rather than trying to sloppily get into other people's lanes at the expense of a good MPC product.
