2000xl new pad sensor sheet not working!!! help!!!

i installed a new pad sheet because mine had 8 pads not working. now none of the pads are working at all! i did the padchk thing and nothing registers. i also checked to make sure all connections were secure and everything seems to be good. what else can cause no response from pads because the same pad sheet works fine in another mpc? is there a fuse or something that could cause this? :?:

Did you checked the connection between your motherboard and the top PCB board? all other buttons/functions are working?

If pad sheet works in another MPC it looks to me like your PCB board it's damaged or it is not properly connected to your mobo.

Yes. Everything else seems fine. I put the new pad sheet in another mpc and all pads are working, just can't figure out why none work on mine.all the motherboard to pcb connections look solid. No caps or resistors seem to be bad but I'm not an expert on those... I know enough to change one out if I had to...

did you find out what was wrong? It seems i have the same problem with a classic 2000 and new pad sensor. I get response from buttons and slider in pad check menu, but nothing from pads. all connections are fine and i can measure resistance change on the pins of sensor connector when pressing pads (which indicates that the sensor and connectors are all right)

Same Problem here on my 2kxl. Just bought some pad sensors off mpcstuff.com

I might add that my previous sensor was was from VST and upon comparing the two, VSTs is MUCH better quality of materials than the MPCstuff, which is very thin and crappy.

I digress. Anyway. Only half of my pads are working. 3,4,7,8,11,12,15,16 (half of the right side) are NOT working.

Any ideas? I'm thinking it's the operational board at this point. I've read and checked all connectors, ribbons, etc. I'm pretty sure it's not the new sensor pads.

I'm stuck. I might have to bring it in to VST to get it fixed. They charge $75 just to diagnose the thing.

So bummed.

If only some of your pads are working, and they're all on one side, I'd suspect the ribbon connector or their traces may be damaged. Or the connector is not seated properly. You can also have problems if the pad sensor sheet has been bent or folded in any way.

FYI guys, I had the exact same problem last week after installing new RAM!

Here's what I did :
- I completely removed the part that slides from the black connector (which you have to put the sensor into).
- I then align the sensor into the connector. It's easier because with the sliding part removed, you can see exaclty where the connections should be.
- I put back the sliding part, making sure the sensor didn't move on any of the sides.

It took me about 2 or 3 times to get it working, but I did lol.

Now it works like a charm.

i had a bunch of dead buttons on the main control board of my 2kxl, though all the pads were responding fine
i sent the board to a shop to replace all the switches cuz damn theres a lot of em, and now the control board works fine but i am getting zero response from the pads
ive reseated the connector dozens of times, tried shimming the pad sensor up to the contacts, idkwtd
this things got me going crazy. after five floppy frives i managed to upgrade to 1.2 os, after six weeks on backorder i finally got a cold swap ide sd drive. got all the right switches from mouser.
and now nada from the pads. id have gotten a new pad sensor already but they usually seem to fail on certain pads rather than 100%
my multimeter died on me or id have tested continuity along the sensor sheet and ribbon, from that to the connector, &c. this mpc seems cursed, but i wanna get it working so bad
should i just cross my fingers and order a new pad sensor or is there something im missing?
ive done the diagnostic screens and get no pad response whatsoever

A battery for your multimeter or even a basic multimeter is much cheaper than a new pad sensor sheet. Most big box hardware stores, electronics stores or even sellers on eBay have decent multimeters and probes for under $20USD.

The sensor sheets -- especially the original ones -- are not very flexible and the traces will easily be broken if the sheet is not carefully removed from the MPC. Depending on where the traces are broken, sometimes they can be repaired with some solder and conductive foil tape.

first off, thanks for the encouragement! the main problem was the ribbon cable from the control board to the mobo wasn 100% perfectly seated, buttons responded but the pads didnt
now that ive reseated it ive got most of the pads working
13-16 are dead; do you have any further tips on repairing it? i havent done anything else yet because at least the machine works now somewhat so i can practice with it til i fix or replace the pad sensor

Just a really late update, it was the operational board as far as half of my pads not working. After the replacement; everything was fine.

So it turns out that my old pad sensors were fine! :oops:

Compare in the test mode if your original sensors are still as good as the new ones by testing the velocity. I'm sure your new sensors will require less force to reach full velocity of 127.
