i was curious if anyone would know about campatability with smart media cards. heres an example.....say i have the 2kxl with a 7 in 1 card reader installed internally and it takes smart media cards in one of the slots. and say i also have the sp 303, which also takes smart media cards. say i have a 32mb media card that i use for the 303, with samples on it straight from the turntable....can i take that same card and put it in the mpc and have the mpc read the samples that were on the card? if so, what will they be named, since u cant name samples on the 303? and also, say i have a 64mb card full with sounds, is it gonna work the same as a zip when i go to load sounds from it? except i'll have to scroll to load from whatever drive the card reader is(anybody know that?).... and finaly, one last thing..
if i had a usb card reader for my comp, can i take sounds from the computer, put it on the smart media and then use it in either the sp303 and the mpc2kxl ??? i know its alot and its probly been beet to death, but im not really up on all this info....thanks alot tho everyone

ps also any feedback about any of the above would be educational

If they were recorded via PC for smart card "import" into the SP303 then yes for sure, but if they were sampled directly into the SP303 and saved onto a smart card then I'll step down to a "I think so". I haven't messed with mine in a while so I could be wrong. I'll check when I get home and let you know.

yes, if you mean that the sounds were saved to the card using yer PC.

If ALL your cards were formatted fat16 then the MPC will read the WAV files (44khz/16bit) placed on them.

Just because they are cards and they fit in the different slots does NOT in ANYWAY mean they will all work like you are wishing/hoping?

If you format any smart media card on the PC w/fat16 can the 303 recognize it? AND does the 303 save in WAV (44khz/16bit)? If so then yes you should be able to swap around the samples to both machines.

thanks lamp... i think the 303 does save wav., i know it samples at 44 khz/16 bit, so does that mean it will work?

do the same rules of the zip disk apply to the smart media card, whereas i would need to change all the file names to shorter lengths for the mpc to read, etc. if i was going from my pc to my mpc? or can i just load up pgms and wavs on to the smart media via usb card reader--->mpc/sp303 without doing anything?

Only mpc can read mpc pgm's. MPC pgm/seq/aps/all on the 303 and vice versa, no go.

Same 8 character rules apply, why, as long as your using the fat16 formatted disks/floppies/smart media then that is what you'll have to do.

If the 303 saves as 44khz/16bit then you should have no problem loading those wav files in the mpc.

BUT does the 303 use fat16 formatted smart media? IF it does then you should be able to exchange samples between it and the MPC using the same disk/floppies/smart media with no problem.
