i feel like they made sampling way harder

i feel like they made sampling way harder in this update. i dont know how to chop and make slices because this new update is so confusing. can you help me out?

what are you confused about?

Do you know anybody in your town that has an mpc? Find someone experienced with an mpc in your area. You're not going to learn Sampling very quickly on a web forum.

I'm sure more tutorial videos will be out. For now, search Youtube videos.

I notice a trend of MPC users that don't know anyone else with one. No one to chill with. When did the World change? I've been in the basement my whole life, I guess.

I've not noticed sampling is any harder to be honest.

They have changed the sample edit workflow quite a bit, which is probably what the OP meant. Not hugely though - once you work out that you press the trim button to get to chop (and vice versa), that chops are manual by default, and that you get to the convert function from chop mode by pressing shift, it should all be fairly familiar

Edit: And I don't know anyone with an MPC. Apart from on here of course.

Apart from some much needed improvements to the GUI and workflow in CHOP mode, the process of creating the slices hasn't fundamentally changed from the previous version. At the 'convert' stage you now have an extra optional method (non destructive chopping) however you can still choose the old way of converting if you wish.

Please explain exactly where you are getting confused and we can try to help. I'll also have my updated Sampling Laid Bare tutorial book out this week which will cover chopping in 1.8.

back then I was also the only one with a mpc 2000xl...internet was not such a big option in the early 2000 ...only the manual and me..read try out and read again...try recreating tracks...

I suppose when you look at chopping now, it perhaps has too many different permutations, might be overwhelming to some.

For example, not sure if the option for 'Crop Samples: OFF' should be there any more, surely it was only ever there to compensate for the lack of NDC?

Out of interest, is anyone using the pad parameter convert option (instead of 'slice' number)?

I use pad param method.

in this vid below at around the 2:11 minute mark dude has all the ndc copies of the sample on the different pads.

but in that program mode u can alter the start /end point but i dont see an option to alter the tuning from that screen?

how can i have my multiple copies of the sample have independent pitch settings?

Sampling hard is taking a breakbeat and trying to loop that mug on a tape cassette. Had a flashback. This update has a small learning curve, a few extra steps but definitely not harder.

I don't understand this thread. All the same functionality from 1.0 is still there.

No way. Much quicker than Maschine.

In the video, he's not chopping. He's just showing how to make copies of the sample sample without creating extra files.

You can't alter tuning while in Program Mode of sample edit. But if you can just change tuning in Program Edit, per pad the same as you always could.

No need for anyone to get bogged down and feel that it is harder in anyway? Workflow has changed (if you want it to). However last time I checked sampling can be as simple as sample and select start and end points? Anything after that is a learning curve.

Random question:

On my 1K... I have a folder that I save raw copies of samples to before chops/edits. When ever I use one in a project (chops/edits/PGM assignment), I tend to "SAVE ENTIRE MEMORY" (all samples/chops/PGMs/sequences) in a new folder that is project-specific.

Is there a way on the MPC Software to organize & save in a similar fashion? I really like having all my samples saved apart from my musical projects, and it would be a huge bummer if I couldn't work this way when ever I move over to the software side.

Figured this would be a decent thread to ask instead of creating a new one.
Lemme know if not.
