effects board ,is sound quality that bad?

thinking aout getting this as it would be nice to have some effects when just using the machine stan alone which iv been doin recently . is it worth buying ?

Opinions vary. I think it's dope, but the price is soooo high these days. I wouldn't buy it these days. Sorry, but unless you get it for a hundred bucks or less, I'd rather track it out in a daw if I had to. It's a pain, but whatever. Up to you.

ye im in uk and its about 200 dollars for it , that way too much i think, its just a ball ache tracking out , would be nice to just bounce it out once with some effects

If I were to drop $200+ on effects I'd rather put that to an ensoniq dp4.

Thing is, I'm sure most of us are going to dump to daw anyway, so it would likely make more sense to utilize the effects with whatever million plugins are available.

It's ok, it ain't Lexicon that's for sure but it does give you some nice options. I would not pay $200 for it myself. If you are lucky you can get a maxed out Akai S2000 sampler for $150 like I did, and inside you can take out the EB-16 (effects board), the 32 MB RAM and the IB-208P (8-output board). NOW THAT'S WORTH IT!!!

I use the FX on every track I make, mostly reverb & delays, tho sometimes the distortion as well, it's pretty dope. I like having everything come out of the box as close to finished as possible so I just have to bounce & make some final tweaks. But I agree that if I hadn't bought a 2k with one, I don't think I'd spend current prices to get one. A better solution IMO is to have the 8-output board & use the outs actually as sends, sending the sounds to a higher-quality reverb/delay/distortion/filter.

Back when i had 2kxl It came with the eb16 and i liked it alot, easy to use and the fact that the settings stick in the save file is dope.

But the price is like said above the tough part getting past, its not just worth what it gives.
Is it nice? yes! Would i trade it for my current ensoniq dp4? heell no!

You get a nice message once you install it, where the usual "not installed" shows up

Yo, I've been using one for about 2 or 3 months. I found after reading forums that people say it's shit and limited, but I think it's because they don't know how to use it properly.
Sure, you can get a lot better sound from a $2000 effects unit, but for what you get it's good value.
And having everything in one unit is something I like... considering I'm already tracking out to a couple strip channels.

I use it mostly for the 4-band filter to removing low end from samples which really helps.
Also, delays on hi hats is dope and stereo phase on samples to make them richer.

I picked one up for $280 AUD inc. shipping.

I bought it. I've seen reviews of people saying it's clumsy and low quality and cheesy but that extra bit of a tiny amount of reverb on the snare or something is usually what can make the difference in a beat. It's all in how you use it. I find it to be dope. Sometimes it can be used in a creative way that makes ALL the difference in a beat. If possible go the sorinp route.

Currently selling an MPC2KXL but can strip the board out if need be
