2000xl: Changed the F6 Button and it's still not working

Hi Guys

So last week the F6 button on my 2000xl SE3 stopped working and since I've been using it a lot I thought the small tact switch needs to be replaced.

I ordered a couple of them from mpcstuff.com and replaced them. (also some of the cursor buttons and the fader were buggin so I replaced them)

After I checked everything and screwed it together I noticed that the F6 button is STILL not working

Does anyone have an idea what the problem could be?

It's really a pain in the ass since the MPC is basicly useless without the F6 button...

I think you should check the soldering job on the faulty tact switch. It could be just cold joint (i.e. bad soldering job).
Next time, you should get tact switches from somewhere else, the tact switches used in 2000XL are most common tact switches. They should not cost more than a dollar per switch. eBay is also good place to find the tact switches.

Anyone paying a dollar or more for tact switches is crazy and wasting money.

Thanks for the info. I need an NV slider for my 2K classic. Since I need to order tact switches for my x0xb0x, I'll save some money placing 1 order.

5 months later, I finally remember to order this slider... and finally, a parts order to Digikey for my x0xb0x parts.

These are the same tact switches for the MPC60, 2000, 4000,1000 & ASR-10... 6.0X6.0X5.0MM 160GF ALPS TACTILE SWITCH.

Has anyone tried a height of 6mm or 7mm on the tact switches (instead of the 5mm height) to take up for the play/space when pressing the buttons?

If not, I figure it's worth a try. I got a couple of XL's with some sloppy play under the buttons.

I just had a look at the control board for the MPC2000. It doesn't look like there's any clearance for a taller tact switch. The tabs which hold the button on the board won't be long enough anymore. Some buttons might fit. But they would sit on an angle and end up breaking. Play it safe and only buy one tact switch if you wanna try it, so you don't waste your money.

I can confirm that 6x6x5mm Omron B3W sealed tact switches (yellow top) work also on the 2000XL and ASR-10.
They cost a couple of cents more than the Alps tact switches but they are sealed to prevent dust, dirt and beer from entering into the switch.
