each track on the mpc needs to be set to a different midi channel. each instrument on the motif needs to be set to receive on a different channel. the track on the mpc set to each channel will control that same channel on the motif.

you want a midi cable from the mpc midi out A to motif midi in. then you'll want another cable from the motif midi out to the mpc midi in.
from the main screen, on track 1, scroll down to where it says DRUM, rotate right and change it to MIDI. now go over to the right and set the midi channel to 1-A...that means midi channel 1 on output A. 2-A would be channel 2 on output A, etc.
figure out how to set individual channels in the motif.
now you should be able to play the keyboard on your motif and the mpc will record these notes, and then play them back to the motif on each track.
you can experiment with different thru settings on the mpc and local control settings on the motif to get it exactly how you want it.

a single midi cable can spit out 16 channels. I don't know anything about the motif but if it has 16 different channels you can sequence them all from the xl using just one cable.
