Will 2KXL 0S1.2 read SCSI drive larger than 1Gb?

Hello

So I understand that OS1.2 doesn’t let you format a CF card above 1Gb. But ...

1) Will it let you format an external SCSI drive above 1Gb?

2) And if not will it at least read an external SCSI drive larger than 1Gb that was formatted on an older OS?

i don't believe that is the issue... it will format them, but to one GB only. I am not sure that isn't a limitation to the IDE port, I am not actually sure if it affects scsi... and if you are using scsi with a hard drive then you should maybe consider using OS 1.14 (OS 1.20 is the same OS but with better IDE/atapi compatibility)

Thanks, the CF reader I have needs 1.2. I'm hoping I can drop back to 1.14, format/partition the SCSI drive I have (4Gb) then reinstall 1.2

Oh and yeah I meant it'll let you fomat a CF card with a capacity above 1Gb but it'll only format 1Gb's worth of it

yeah exactly... it still works, but you lose the rest of the space on 1.20. formatting on 1.14 I don't think will work.. but i don't remember 100% from back when I had the XL. I am guessing you are trying to use an external SCSI hard drive? And 1.20 is also affecting that with the 1gb per partition limit as well? I didn't think that would be the case on 1.20 through scsi...

Don't forget that one of the characteristics of 1.20 is that it doesn't use partitions.
I have never tried 1.20 but I'm guessing it will only read the first partition of the media.
Will be interested to hear how you get on with this.

Hopefully it doesn't affect the SCSI.

Got hold of a SCSI drive. It's a Quantum Fireball ST3.2s. I'm not entirely sure what the capacity is. OS1.2 let's you try to format it into a range of partitions, the minimum being A-D each of 800Mb. Which would imply the drive is 3.2Gb which would make sense given the model name. However when you then go to load or save there's no reference to any partitions (you can't even select them) just the drive which is reporting 1Gb free space.
