MPC Touch Overview (Pete and Geoff video)

Just watched it, a lot of great stuff in it. I'm not sure if there is going to be a separate 1.9 video.

Seeing that the XYFX and Name Sequences from the touch screen are most likely Touch screen exclusive, I guess this will be the reason of separate software's.

I don't know what to say.....weird...hipster-ish...dope..brain fuc.ked..sick....gay as hell....really dope....but....great at the same time. She's ugly but I'd f.uck her!

The xy pads are awesome. The best automation ever I think. Very well done.

Knobs and buttons look cheap.

I'm really not impressed. And I'm not exactly pumped that Akai is now trying to join the race of crappy 808-style "machine does it for you, you needn't be able to play pads" sequencers. Yet another sign that this is an entry-level toy. Smh.

My ideal would just be a new Ren that is exactly the same as the current one, except with those new pads and a bigger screen- whether it's touchscreen or not. Instead of improving on the MPC's strongpoints, they seem to be throwing out the playbook in order to try and keep up with other entry-level crap.

It looks like they're taking some of the tedious crap out of the MPC workflow, which can only be a good thing. There's a lot of scope for happy accidents with the step sequencer and effects.

I just hope the XYFX gets a bit finer because it looks to be more DJ oriented than a studio tool from what they've shown so far.

Why does everyone want "happy accidents" nowadays? How about some gear for those of us who use our brains?

I think it appears pretty decent.
I hope XY automation can have a finer resolution; seems to be moving in pretty big blocks.

Looking good, can't wait to try it out. Should also keep the 'I need to name things on the hardware' crowd happy. I don't think you can comment too much on how it's going to improve workflow until you actually sit down with it for a few days.

Wondering how responsive the touch screen is, in places there does seem to be a little delay in when the screen reacts to the finger movement, perhaps it's just the way the screen looks on video, but it does seem sluggish in places.

truth be told, step sequencers are not toys and can be used by people who know exactly what they are doing too, not just for accidents. the 808 has never been a toy either, but I don't like this controller for other reasons. I want to like it but somehow it doesn't feel organic imho, maybe I'm just not interpreting it correctly.

they put in a touch screen, so they had to put in an XY controller for fx... daws have had them for years that you could control with hardware of many different types... but the demo of it that they showed seemed more sluggish and worse sounding than korg's kaoss pads and they are making use of a PC or mac... we shouldn't be seeing touch phase shifters and tape delays... we should be seeing the ability to assign any param into that list of presets such as LFO rate and depth.. and other common things we have been seeing in other products made in the 2010's. I hope there is the ability to adjust the glide speed of the XY controller (ie: the speed the fx go from the present fx amounts where your finger was to the intersection where you move your finger to) you should be able to make it real time as quick as you move it to a more lagging amount... plus there should be the ability to have it roll off when you lift your finger and not just cut off cold turkey.

okay i kind of like the look of the hardware... but those features just don't seem interesting at all.. it just seems like an attempt to make an electribe with a touch screen that is tethered to the computer. The worst part about it is.. i wouldn't mind an electribe with pads like those...

I do like the potential of having that touch screen available for cool features.. but I don't like the idea of HAVING to use it to get things done.. that is one reason I am not a huge fan of tablets for real time music stuff...

I hope someone finds a way to enable that controller to be used in different software (think imageline and what they did when the APC controllers first came out)

Certain styles of music or methods of obtaining sounds benefit from tools that can give unpredictable results.

'Experimentation' is a better term, and as working methods go, it probably requires more brain power than 'regular' music making techniques.

I don't care what anyone sais. It looks like a big improvement. Waiting to try it in my local store. maybe I'll be selling the studio to get this.
