MPC Renaissance Midi Note Numbers

Hi guys first post, thanks for having me,

I have a Roland Tr8 which I would like to link up to my renaissance,
When I use a midi track, and set channel to 10, the midi note numbers of the tr8 are splattered accross multiple MPC banks (A,B,C,D lets say).

I would like to have my kickdrum as A1, snare as A2, etc all on the first 16 pads of bank A. just for easier playability.

Have been looking all around the internet and can't seem to find anything changing the midi note numbers on the REN, however, I see people doing it on the 2000xl 1000, even the 500, all of them but the REN..

This is a crucial function, makes no sense to me that it has been left out..

Can you please provide some help.

I saw someone saying it's possible to modify the program information through a text file, to change the midi note numbers there, but even then I can't seem to get it to work.

Also, modifing the midi # in MIDI mode (Shift + MIdi) doesnt seem to work neither,

I've spent the last week trying to figure it out,

You can edit the XPM in any text editor, look for where this starts near the end:



You'll need to decide what MIDI number you wish to start on pad 1 (A1). '0' makes most sense as there's 128 pads and 128 MIDI note numbers and will match the mapping on a keygroup program. However 36 on pad A01 is in line with JJOS and the MPC5000 keygroups, but you'll need to find room for 0-35 somewhere in banks E-H.

I did find this PADNOTEMAP PADNOTENUMBER text like you posted in your picture but only in the keygroup program, not in the midi and drum ones, and theres no way to send the info on channel 10 which is the necessary channel for the tr8.

Any ideas?

I just created a blank drum program, saved it and opened in a text editor. The pad MIDI note assignments start on line 23727.

However can you confirm what it is you are trying to do? Trigger the TR8 sounds from your MPC? If so you'll need to use a MIDI program which is not editable this way, it cannot be edited at all, it's chromatic. I believe the TR8 uses GM drum mapping so bear that in mind, it's not chromatically arranged (C, D, G etc):

Yes see TR8 drums respond to midi note number messages (Kickdrum - C2, Snaredrum - D2... etc) all on channel 10.

I'm trying to create an MPC program which allows me to have all the drums on the 16 pads of bank A, right now the drums are scattered all accross the banks.

I'm trying to have Kick on pad a1, snare on pad a2, and so forth.

This is possible on all other MPCs and even MPDs and every midi controller I can think of.

Right now I have to go to Bank C to play the kickdrum, Bank D to play the cowbell.... so it's kind of shitty way to create a drum pattern.

Is there any way I can play all the drums from the tr8 on just 1 bank of the mpc by mapping the midi note number messages?

I would think that MPC renaissance would have this function it's not something that's much to ask of a 1300$ machine lol.

In legacy MPCs you could assign a DRUM program to a track and also set that same track to simultaneously send out MIDI on a specific channel, don't think that's possible in the MPC Software. And it looks like a MIDI program can't be edited to change assignments. I think the only way you can control your TR8 from the pads is to switch to MIDI control mode, but that doesn't sound like what you are looking for.

Does the TR8 have midi note learn? If so, then you have a work around. I had the same problem with my MFB 522 (no midi learn), although the notes all happened to be grouped together in bank C so not too bad. My other drum machines (Vermona DRM, Tanzbar Lite, Nord Drum 2 ...) all have midi learn, so very easy to set up all the drums on bank A.

Nop no midi learn unfortunately...

you could try using bomes midi translator .. and the internal software midi cable. . I haven't tried this what your doing, but have messed with bomes midi translator mainly to do keyboard shortcuts with a midi controller to control mpc software..
here's how you might be able to do it..

midi out port from mpc software are virtual midi cable..
bomes receives this midi cable. and midi signal/note and converts it to new note to output to the tr8
