Recording Vocals in Ableton with REN + XLR Mic

I have long searched for a solution on this and it's really driving me bonkers.

I have an XLR microphone that I plug into my REN, fire up the phantom power and expect that when I turn up direct monitor, I can hear myself in mono, which is not the case...I hear myself only out of one side.

The solution I have with this is not ideal, and it introduces latency.

I use Ableton to record multitrack vocals, and set the input in Ableton to mono -all fine and dandy, but when live monitoring my vocals, its only out of one ear in my headphones. When I monitor from Ableton, it's latent, not bad but not what I need to give the best performance.

Any ideas here? how can I direct monitor in true mono.

With my old ProTools box I'd plug in my XLR and it would monitor in mono no problem.

Hi, did you changed the Track input in Ableton to mono? You should only select one channel as input, e.g. 1L or whatever you can choose from within Ableton.
To reduce latency, you should turn on direct monitoring at the Ren (your audio-interface in this case) and disable record monitoring within Ableton.

Yes, in Ableton - no brainer, set to mono, and records mono. I use direct monitoring from REN and have turned of monitoring from Ableton - but still only hearing myself in one channel that route.

Does panning hard left or hard right make a difference?

I had a similar Problem and solved it this way:
Go to the sample record page (shift +sample edit) and check, if the mode is not set to stereo. It should have no impact, but sometimes...
