Problems with my internal Zip driver?

Hi folks! I just got this Zip disk with the OS 1.20 upgrade for my mpc2kxl. The reason why is that I also got this internal SD card reader to make it easer for me. But when I go in to the loading session on my mpc and try to search ATAPI (my zip drive is internal) it says no disk. I turned it on and of and the more I do the more frustrated I become. Anyone know about this problem? What I really need to know is, is it my zip drive that is broken or the zip disk? Thanks!

Thanks! I looked in to it and it is a "Drive 0 (master) not drive A". I never had no cable in to that plug in though. The zip drive worked fine when I got the used 2000xl I bought about three months ago but the zip driver has stopped working.
I start to think that it is my mpc that is broken... Any one ever had the problem where it says "not ready !!" on the display when you try to load, save or format? The zip drive has power on it but I think the problem can be the communication between the zip drive and the mpc that is somehow broken.

The same thing, all it says when I go to ATAPI is " not ready !! ". It is strange because I can't see what the problem would be, I looked inside the mpc and the cables were plugged in correctly. It won't load the disks and the zip drive make this "searching-sound" constantly when I have the mpc turned on with a disk in it. It is like the drive have lost the ability to read disks. Maybe it is my mpc who can't load atapi, I am absolutely no expert at this... Any answer is very appreciated.

this is why we say to everyone, do not use zip disks.

google 'zip click of death' and see if that describes your situation.

get rid of the zips asap - hopefully you can save some of your old data with a new drive, but quit using the broken one.

No it's not that either. Now it makes a strange noise (like a battery-motor). I think I will have to get rid of the damn thing before it destroys the whole mpc... I would love to just get rid of the zip drive but I need it to upgrade my OS so I can install my SD card reader. Maybe I have to get an external zip drive but I can't find any cheap ones, just to do one task. :/

Hmm, I have this external CD/RW driver with a SCSI input. I have no idea how to operate it though or if it even works. If I could download the OS from my cpu, put it on a CD and load it on the mpc it would be awesome, but from what I understand I can't load CD/RW from the mpc. Or can I?

Yes, plugged out the disk drive. Well didn't find any information on how to burn the OS on a cd correctly or if it is even possible but if you know how to do it I would be very glad if you shared

Okey so the CD/RW thing didn't work, my final question is a little bit easier. Can I use an external zip drive with a db25 output to my mpc with a hd50 input (with a db25 and hd50 adapter cable)?

who don't you plug it to the outside of the mpc on the external scsi port if it is an external zip drive....

or maybe you could get a floppy drive for a couple of dollars and put the OS on it that way.

Yes I find a pretty cheap ext. zip drive. My question is if the SCSI port on the zip drive is different from the one on the mpc, will it still work. With an adapter cable.
