They aren't held in any great regard... this is the forum where we come to **** on the akai brand ever since Numark bought it and it became a label under the InMusic umbrella.

You are absolutely right about the things you say the company is doing wrong... the people who come off as defending the company are not saying they are doing no wrong... they just know how to keep their expectations because here on these forums we have been seeing this exact same thing happen for a decade now over and over with almost every product they have released.

One point that is being made is... at least you have the touch. The touch actually works... despite it's flaws. If you bought a 5000 when it came out for 3500 dollars or how ever much it cost then you would have really been screwed.. and software aside you may have had to boost your fire insurance premium on your house in case it caught fire. Or how about the 1000/2500 where the OS was total **** and the product was only viable at all because of a disgruntled former contracted affiliate who never got payed went ahead to continue developement (JJOS)... or how about the 500, where if you are not careful you would break the clips when trying to install the ram upgrade... or the pads that you have to stab in order to get any sound out of it.. still left buggy to this day.. how about all the discontinued alesis products they rebranded as akai and re-released at an inflated price. How about the rythm wolf and that series of garbage.. or the terrible guitar pedals that sound like ****.. the **** MPK 49 with keys that break and pop up (google mpk 49 popped keys) along with the terrible MPK pads.

The list goes on and on... this forum has covered all of the terrible things akai has done. The **** products, the **** customer service... and we always call them out on their terrible marketing that tries to take credit for the legendary MPC models that came out before they had anything to do with the company. You don't see akai bragging about the iconic 5000 workflow or feel.

Give this guy a break, he isn't taking akai with a cinder block of salt yet.. he is still viewing akai in the same horizon as other music companies... it takes time before you just shrug your shoulders and accept that is how things are with akai.

Your absolutely right, I just think hes attacking my character by assuming im at fault for all the issues ive had with akai, I mentioned rhythm wolf prior too. I also had bought trigger finger pro and the main function/purpose it was designed for was completely broken which was the beat clock sync was unusable, they instead of fixing it lowered the price instead because I called a few stores and told them about how many people online were having same problem, so the stores lowered it to $200 from 400 orig price.(whats the point if they never fix it)
I m just fed up, im only angry they cant at least let us know anything at all, as I believe if you show something once at least give us a statement after 11 mos.

Welcome to MPC forums!

With akai, you really have to take the product for what it currently has and never expect anything they say will happen. Don't even believe for a second that any type of 2.0 software is coming until you see proof of someone else installing it and you know it works.

Long gone are the m-audio days of the delta 1010... or the akai days of the 3000.

sbtst6 wrote:I can under stand frustration with these companies and there products… I think the ableton model is probably the best of the bunch. I have never seen any of these other companies doing what they are doing as far as the customers are concerned. The updates are pretty regular as they are on top of making the best product for the consumer. When Push came into play it bridged the gap of a lot of tools we use in the studio, home and/or on the road.

I can’t complain, as I am also part of the Ableton beta program. Every 2-4 weeks i get a beta update of them working on improvements. Hell, as soon as the official Live 9.7 was released, within 2 weeks of that release, they sent out beta 9.7.1. All i can say is damn!! I was far from expecting quick updates, cause we are all used to a minor quick fix upon release, cause something was buggy, or waiting for months, years, or never!

When ableton did the push trade up plan for existing owners, that was nice. I felt that ableton didn’t leave me hanging and they gained my trust and support. Love the fact that i can see progress and be hands on with it.

Now i have owned plenty of mpcs over that last 20+ years, currently the touch. Which i might possibly sell and replace with a black studio. But, with the touch i feel there is still a lot of work that needs to be done for it to be solid work horse. I feel the touch screen is slick, but slow, cause of a lot of menu diving..Hopefully major workflow improvements will be in 2.0 (we shall see). Had the ren a while back, and felt the workflow was actually better, because it was more hands on with the dedicated buttons and knobs. Hell, might even replace with a used ren.

On a side note, I like using the Impc app for some oddball reason. Its a lot more fun than the actual hardware/software.

But as far as NI/Akai, every time you turn around, they are adding more products to cover up what they should be addressing.

Yes, ableton has pretty much one core product to address, but they are addressing it well and I’m feel I’m not in the dark as a customer.

Your absolutely right too, im probably going that route eventually, ableton push 2 looks amazing but im holding out for push 3, that will likely be insanely good. If Akai was like ableton they would be unstoppable. But the owner of inmusic is a greedy guy from what ive heard.

In the meantime, like someone earlier in this thread, I'm enjoying the iMPC Pro software customised for the iPad touchscreen interface.

Lots of fun (at version 1.6 now I believe), quick to work with and can export to an MPC desktop project though I haven't tried this myself due to no MPC hardware at the moment. Those are quite expensive dongles for their software.

I have an iPad pro with 128GB (as much as my 2015 Macbook Pro, sadly, stolen) and I can fly around on it. Heaps of cheap sound packs for it too - if that's your thing.

I just came here to let people know my experience over several years w Akai and inmusic brands, but I still am looking foward to 2.0 I just feel like since mpc touch came out everyone who reviews it says its so great, and they never mention the issues i brought up. I thought based on reviews and tons of research that I could at least control the mpc software completely from hardware, but really the touchscreen main selling point is more gimmick than function, as most the time id rather use my mpc studio mk1, as the touch provides no real functionality that mpc studio doesnt have, but it requires power brick.

This is hilarious guys. I wanna say carry on but I think one of you may have a stroke if it continues.

Stop picking on relic as he makes some good points.

Relic..... There is a proverb for what you have described.
Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.

Cut your losses and walk away. You sound like you are a battered spose. You know you should leave but you are still in love. Just walk away buddy. Akai ain't gonna win you back anytime soon.

Basically im at the point where ive waited this long I might as well keep waiting to sell, as im out 200 extra plus depreciation. But I probably will go push 2 route, as its a company who doesnt mess around, and who has enough programmers where as akai is very few programmers frm what i heard... The only reason I havnt jumped ship is because ableton is not the "traditional daw" im used to, I use studio one 3 exclusively at this point,(I have ableton,cubase,fl12,sonar,reason,& others) but Im hoping if 2.0 delivers then I can finally control everything from the hardware. I am a old time mv8800 user so i prefer hardware...

This paragraph, ugh, wow. I forgot about half of these. How about the early 1000's dead pad debacle? Or how the 1000/2500 tact switches would die in less than a year of use? Didn't someone's 5000 short out and catch on fire? Or maybe not, I don't remember. Regardless, the list really does go on and on

Edit: Re-read the paragraph I quoted, yep, a 5000 did catch on fire.

There really is no reason to support such a shitty company when so many better options are out there.

One of the employees mentioned that an Akai rep had brought in a video 2 weeks ago that showed a new mpc, and that they did want to release it by the end of november. The GC employee claimed he couldn't remember many details about it looked like or how it functioned, so who knows-the guy might be full of ****. Pretty strange though!

seem like the guy at GC is trying to cover the fact that he breached his NDA; hence the sudden amnesia regarding the product.

Where do these people come from?

There's too many videos of people sampling for the interface not to be working.

I remember the 5000 thing. You guys are gullible, the guy posted an incident prior on how the roof or something leaked water onto his equipment. It shorted it out, weeks later it catches fire. He was trying to claim it with his warranty. If it was an issue it wouldn't be isolated. It would be like Samsung phones where multiple 5000's caught fire.

How many of you guys knew that the Touch couldn't control the computer when in desktop extender mode? It's even posted on their website. :WTF:

not gullible.. just laughing at how much of a mess akai was at that time... it was every damn product they put out for a decade plus... every product had some kind of flaw... or was total shit... but mainly it was corner cutting penny pinching when the shelf price suggested otherwise.
By dustymaestro Wed Nov 09, 2016 3:26 am
People say Numark is a mess, but the truth is Japan Akai was failing. This new company turned it around, I'm glad there's still MPC's around.

I don't think I experience half the stuff people claim, look at this new guy, he says the interface doesn't work.

yeah the old company wasn't doing well... but it doesn't mean they didn't make quality gear. It just was too expensive... didn't need replacing.. and when the buy out happened they turned around the company by turning around the type of products they manufactured.
