Things are getting interesting again. Looks like MPC 2500 shape to an extent.
Already looking fwd to NAMM a lot!

i think this conf. date applies to the confidentiality clause, not the release date of the actual item
but hey, i wouldn't mind if they'd release it "somewhere in 2017", by then i will have found some other (modular!) workflow

Confidentiality clause probably means confidentiality must be honored till the end of that period, so if it ends at the end of May, it's probably out _by_ then.

Indeed. They want the details confidential until then so one can deduce that the release date will be will sometime between now and then as they won't want the confidentiality agreement to end before it has been released.

And checking the new model that has the long term agreement as well. So take that as you will... we're still just guessing!

Wow! Its a stick drawing of a square with a sticker on it!!! At this point I gotta think that akai is behind these leaks. One leak ok but 2? Come on... In a matter of weeks? I have never heard of another music product leaked like this.

IMHO, it almost feels a bit ridiculous that Akai aren't saying anything at this point.
It's almost like, come on, be adults, the thing's out, say something about it not to be all awkward about it.

Can you imagine how _good_ promo it'd be for them for a change (people might actually respect them instead of the always-so-common grumpy talk about them)?
E.g., have Pete or Dan do a little public announcement about it, be honest about it, and even just say you're still working on it and cannot give a date.
But...we all know that's not going to happen. They keep ignoring ppl's comments on socials, disabling comments where they can etc.

Why are we acting like any of these new instruments coming out are going to be anything better than what we have from 10-25 years ago?

The only reason why we even care for the 1000-2500 is because of JJ OS. And even then, the hardware had corners cut on it.

The 5000, the OS issues and correct me if I'm wrong, the pad issues on it too? Why do we keep going further back to machines with less options if the new sh*t is that dope?

I mean, as long as people are actually making music and not spending all their time drooling over gear or thinking that that new gear will change their production life for the better, isn't that quite OK? Some people get a new car every 1–2 years. They probably don't _need_ it but they like it. Same goes for buying music gear.
I admit: I love new gear. Hell, I ain't even denying it: I'm thirsty for some new Akai for real. And good gear in general, and I do own some for sure. More than I "need". And all of it I make music with. Every day.

Some people frigging collect stamps! I bet those peeps be thirsty for some new stamps and sh*t

And hey, if people had entirely stopped buying the products discussed here or if everybody was superduper content with what they have and never desired for anything new anymore, especially from Akai, this forum probably wouldn't even exist.

I like it here. I love the speculation! Love browsing plugin posts on Gearslutz, too, because I'm interested in new offerings. Bring it on – the speculation, the thirst, the gossip!

Yep, looks just like that black prototype that popped up a couple years ago. Screen and all. The one Dan said at NAMM earlier this year was sitting on his desk as a paper weight - or something to that effect.
