Depends how you are doing it. As I mentioned before I have changed the pitch of sample and it has changed the wav file.
When I am pitching something I will often extract to a separate sample first and then use the pitch change from the sample edit page. I've always known that to be a destructive process in the MPC software.
Never had this issue doing it like that. The file is always altered as per the processing. I didn't know that the MPC software could do non-destructive pitch correction outside of keygroup programs or 16 pad mode.
So how are you applying pitch/time effects?
I'm pretty sure I do just like you. The pitch change happends to the file if I do change the pitch (in the process menu) without affecting the tempo of the sample. In that case it processes the file.
But if I want to change the pitch by changing the tuning in sample edit mode (for example playing it an octave down=half the tempo), that change only happens in the MPC software (thinking it's playing the sample in a different "RPM" internally in the software), and not if I want to listen to that file in some other program (iTunes for example). Same goes if I extract or copy it to a new sample.
Note that I'm not talking about the pitch processing without altering the tempo.
Imagine I want to process a sample by adjusting the tuning (tempo+pitch) of the sample by pitching it down 12 semitones. Then the sample is played an octave down in key and half the tempo compared to the original sample. If I then want to pitch the sample without affecting the tempo, by doing a pitch change in process mode by say, +3 semitones. Then the sample should be played in half the tempo and -9 semitones of the original sample. And it does in the MPC software...
But If I save that file, extracted into a new file or not, and play the file in a different program (f.e. iTunes) then it will be played in the original tempo and +3 semitones in pitch change compared to the original, when I wanted it to be played just like in the MPC software (half the tempo, -9 semitones).
