That long post was pointless, no one cares what u intend to buy, if u had simply read a few posts on this forum, it would of clarified many things for u.

But for some reason u chose to post ur confusion.

as mentioned simply reading posts would of answer ed many of ur questions for instance u made reference to the MPC Eclipse but that misnomer was debunked many posts ago

No big deal ,but it makes u seem clueless when u come to the table with basic, old info that has already been addressed

Is this the way we treat newcomers..?? :Sigh: Instead of giving him a warm welcome to the forums you be acting like that. No one is forcing you to read his post.

To me his post is more like an introduction of himself and what gear he uses, what gear he has used and what he would like to see. Nothing wrong with that.

Anyway welcome to the MPC forum Wormhelmet

This. A guy apologizes, and is rewarded with a dressing down? Totally uncool.

Wormhelmet wrote:Just signed up here after reading this thread and looking at a few older standalone MPC's. A little disappointed there isn't as much enthusiasm for a standalone unit, as there is a (still very small) growing trend of old and new school guys going to hardware systems where the PC or MAC and DAW is just a recording device and used for final masters. I'm pretty excited myself to see another standalone unit.

I was holding back on a Squarp Pyramid 64 track sequencer to see if Akai will bring out something by January 2017. I've never owned an MPC, but my centerpiece for the last two years is a maxxed out and skinned MV8800. I was an Ableton live user for ten years and got tired of controllers and wanted hands on again. Back before Live I was experimenting with Cubasis, then Acid Pro + Fruity Loops, I found Ableton at version 4 when vst support was introduced and stuck with it until right before 9 release. Before all that I had an SU700 sampler, mc303, Korg EX800, and a Quasimidi Polymorph for synths. Many hours spent with my SU700 hooked up to my cable box audio outs grabbing samples.

So the move the last two years has been to bring it back to hardware for me. I have several midi thru boxes for additional midi outs connected to the two midi outs on the mv8800. So far I have a Virus Ti2, Minibrute, a modular with all blue lantern modules, 3x Moog Mother 32's, a Waldorf Blofeld, Roland JV1010, and my master keboard is a 49 key Novation KS4 as it has a nice keybed with good aftertouch.

I bought a lot of used stuff and some new, but recent aquisitions of SammichSID synth, Soulsby Atmegatron, Roland JX-03, Novation Circuit, and a whopping deal on a used Virus Ti, plus my stuff lying around not hooked up like an RM1x, SH-32 synth, old mc303 (not the same one as in the 90's I had, but nostalgia got the better of me) has me wanting a second setup, but slimmed down and something I can take to my buddy's studio to collaborate, so I was looking at the Pyramid sequncer to pair with two of my synths as a portable setup. I think a standalone mpc would be awesome. Workflow on my mv8800 is about the best midi implementation I've ever used. Even better than Geist which I let loose a couple midi maps for use in Ableton and one as standalone using a Korg PadKontrol. Still available on Geist forum I think, but the mv8800 is a little slow on sample preview. Extremely efficient in RAM use though for 512mb and the 160gb drive has 70gb of samples I've been collecting for the last 16 years.

This really is my hope that Akai puts out something without the PC tether that works for gearheads like me that don't use a DAW or PC

My two 12 channel mixers are setup so one is a sub mixer and master output can easily route to my Focusrite 2i2 and then to my iPad Air 2 running Meteor multitrack app to final mix it. Not opposed to running Ableton again for mastering, but the PC needs to be something I hook up as final recording only.

Its not just the more blinky lights that appeals to me in hardware either. Haha. I fell in love with sound design years ago and prefer my synths to have that mental connection of me knowing that I actually am comnecting hands to gear without a usb tether. Archaic I know, but it really works for me.

I think the new one besides Live is called the Eclipse? Anyway, I'm anxiously awaiting the release of these. If they hold off too long, I'm gonna get a maxxed out MPC 1000 or 2500 and see what happens with it sequencing a couple synths for a portable setup.

Get an OP-1!!

Thanks for the welcome guys. No worries on jpeg's post. I believe he was one of the guys predicting he would still see people with a standalone still tethered to a PC anyway and that was part of what prompted me to post here. Oddly enough I still don't feel clueless as there is very little info on the new standalones other than the leaked photo's. There was another website that had a picture of what looked like a red Ren and they said it was what the new Eclipse should look like, so I'm just trying to get more info here. I did get a clue that the MPC forums probably have the most knowledgable MPC users and I could get the latest info. I find more clueless-ness when I describe my setup to people that just use in-the-box vst instruments within a DAW. I think a lot have forgotten how easy midi is with hardware. Even cv control on machines or cv sequencers are easily put to midi with a doepfer dark link or similar cv to midi converter. Not that any large number of producers want that these days, but it is easier than ever to mix PC DAW/vst use with real hardware these days. Synths with multitimbral capabilities can reduce the cpu load greatly to allow for more fx plugins too.

Yes, I've read great things about the OP1. After a couple years with my mv8800 and previous couple years using padKontrol, I'm really hooked to 4x4 grid on pads. I do have an MPC element I use with my iMPC Pro, but that is limited compared to Geist or mv8800 workflow. Beatmaker 2 is much better on ipad with a padKontrol to hit. Pad response on the padKontrol is more like my mv8800 with the new pads I bought from mpcstuff.

I will definitely not be tethered to a pc with an MPC standalone. Beatmaker 3 is expected out in 2017 too. I would rather have my hands on an MPC though. I think NI would have had a hit with a standalone Maschine but they will never do it as it conflicts with selling Komplete and Pioneer's Toraiz just left people wanting larger memory and a real sequencer. Roland is pretty clueless still to what their customer base wants to see, so Akai is the last hope for me.

Here is a quick pic of the current setup with the mv8800 as centerpiece. MV8800 has a vga out and accepts a mouse so the 19" square flat panel is used for a larger mv8800 display. Sitting in front of my iPad on the Griffin dock is a wicked little sampler called a Gotharman Little DeFormer 2 I forgot to mention also. Thanks again for the welcome! Also - my old PC's still get use as synth stands.

Never mind jpeg, he jerks off to a head of lettuce. We all are clueless. All there was a couple pictures, its standalone and some vague specs frosted with 2.0 teases but thats all anyone really knows. Everyone's opinion is based on the Touch and the Ren because of the boxes similarities but really no one knows.

its no big deal but was just making a point that none of us will know the full details till NAMM; but certain shit is known base on leaks and official statements by akai.

like if someone comes in now talking about the standalone will run windows; then they can legit be called clueless cos Dan has stated it is now windows, so in this instance the person posted should humble themselves and reason the posts for more info, rather than barging in with they ignorance.

but my comments though directed at u should not be considered a personal attack as clearly i dont know u personally, it was merely a passing comment on a post that seemed to contain some confusion.

regarding standalone; and looking at ur setup if u had a MPC ren to replace ur MV; given the proximity of ur MV to ur PC, it would seem that being tethered to the PC would not be an issue for you.

Except I clearly stated the PC's in the picture are used as synth stands only. I have not used a PC for two years now for recording. I have 10+ years Ableton Live experience but the controller thing + DAW lost its magic for me awhile ago and i went all hardware. I don't tether a PC to anything. Just use one for work, but not music anymore. My Mix goes into a focusrite 2i2 interface tied to my iPad Air 2 for final recording and that is only if i want to upload to my two websites i use to put music online.

Believe it or not, some don't need DAW software or PC to put out music. The MV8800 has 8 audio tracks, but 256 midi tracks. That's plenty for me considering I'm doing intrumental and no vocals. Most tracks are midi tracks. i can still use the sampler functions mapped to pads to even put vocals in a track if i want. Also, softsynths are now covered by iPad use on whichever midi channel i need, but template i made puts iPad on midi channel A-8. I have more midi channels than I am even close to using with two midi outs for 32 midi channels total.

My point really is that some are chomping at the bit still for a true standalone because we don't need PC's and hardware prices have come down considerably. I'm not the only one after using vst's for over a decade that is tired of vst+controller that approximates the actual hardware. If there were more dedicated controllers, i might use more, but for me it is entirely a mental connection I make between putting my hands on real controls vs a mapped controller. I'm the first to admit that is a personal preference only too.

Nothing wrong with using whatever makes you flow, but this is my current variation from the in-the-box PC studio to make it flow for me. It is slower than PC and has less options, but it gets focus for me right now. Hoping a modern standalone will take out some of that slowness in sample preview times that the MV has.

Two new mpc's and MPC v2.0; I don't see any reason for a white MPC studio, as the current trend is all black

Akai is bucking the all black trend. Their latest "Limited Edition" MPK Mini MK2 is now available in white. The black keys are white and the white keys are black. I guess that red "Limited Edition" MPK Mini Mk2 didn't do too well.

Thank you for the Geist template, wormhelmet. I use it to this day. :worthy:
But ive grown increasingly disillusioned with FXPansion as theyve all but botched Geist2.

Im anxiously awaiting the mpc live standalone. But if Roland ever put their rumored sampler out, its game over.

Hey, I remember you from the Geist forum. Awesome. Glad it is still working for you. Geist was the last software I bought, then only about two years later ditched the PC for my MV8800.

Yep - agreed about Roland. If Roland comes out with an modernized MV series sampler, it's going to rapidly become King. I will definitely buy it even if I have just bought the new MPC Live standalone. I have my MV, a zoom Sampletrak ST-224 I love for the not so hifi sound, and a really crazy Gotharman Little DeFormer 2 expanded sampler with some amazing fx, features, sequencing, etc (great for grit, noise, glitchbreaks, etc. - my Skinny Puppy type sample mangler) and I would definitely find the room for a newer MV type from Roland.

At this point i definitely want an Akai MPC of some type so i can actually get a feel for what is offered in either Akai or JJ OS type workflow. iMPC Pro is not giving me a real taste of what an MPC hardware sampler does and it is so iconic, I feel i am doing myself an injustice to not have at least one real Akai product representing. The OP1 does look like fun too and so many features in that little unit it would be hard not to find something likeable. Maybe a future purchase if i can find one used for the right price.
