I love making beats on my ipad and everything, but the main reasons i still use an mpc are buttons, pads, and knobs.

I've been setting up a 2nd mv8800 and no mouse or monitor on it. My first has always had mouse and monitor on it and I only occasionally hit an actual button. Just use pads and transport controls. I really like the action with no mouse and monitor though. The buttons and knobs are laid out well and all functions are fast once familiar with it. Has bern a great experience learning that someone designed it with ease of use in navigating features.

I think I will enjoy it on the X. Oh yeah, the X is a sexy beast. Must have. Bad GAS for it.

I'm actually interested whether the X can be used without the touch screen as it has more buttons; locate keys and arrow keys, too.

for me this is vital

The Locate keys and arrow keys are definitely vital for me. Not a fan of the fact they are not on the Touch and the MPC Live.
