Huh? Something is comi g?

Man its like this l dropped Avid and Protools out of my setup for good. Protools will never be in my project studio.

I won't drop Akai all together. But l will revert back to the 2000XL.

Avid lost so many that they laid off 1,000 workers.

But l don't know what is going on. I made my decision.
ILL leave Akai to their games of wonder and suspense a go about my business.

That **** Pete was talking about his lice, he wasn't talking about 2.0 at all.

I'm not all that excited for 2.0 but I understand the frustration from the silence of a hard date of release from Akai. They are a peculiar company and seem to be focused to be ahead than concentrate on their grasp.

Something is coming ladies and gentlemen, they wanted to beat someone to the punch, so even halfway ready, Akai announced before the competition can set up shop. They know what actually it is and what it looks like. Many clues in their own vids prepare for the coming. Only thing, is that this THING does not have a huge touchscreen.

You're dropping Reason? I couldn't do that l mix on that SSL mixer it has

I am going to get a maschine studio though since it received a good price drop. I like using the mpc touch and maschine together. With both getting realtime time stretch, I can finally drop reason.

So, they have been working on the X for 3 years and even after they announced a Q1 release, they are still working on the hardware mid-March, they raised the price 100 euros, there are no news regarding 2.0 and all we have is a few demos and some tweets.

They haven't even bothered releasing tech specs (audio interface for example) and all we have is rumors.

That's great. I mean, I didn't expect anything else from Akai.

I dont use it enough anymore, mainly for realtime time stretch by bar/beat. The SSL is crazy though.

Understanding that, one really can't get his hopes up with Akai…things are a bit random.
Akai should be happy there are people waiting for the new MPC badly at this point – even after Ren/1.0 fiasco – but all this weirdness just appears quite…unprofessional, and not updating anyone on anything…that's a bit cocky, when there's people talking about it.

The fact that they also did some hardware upgrade thing recently, which also caused prices to rise, means they're still working on it. Having to redo a model is reality, and I've been betatesting a controller that did get a revision – but that was before its marketing and release and before people knew about it.
And they're still working on 2.0. It's a bit of a joke after things have been announced, TBH.

We could waiting for them six months from now for all you know.

Sweetwater changed their release date from April to June...dates probably still aren't reliable, but there must be *some* reason for the postponed dates.

It's just like djwolfd said at that community forum: they'll appear "some day" but you don't know when to expect it, and I think Akai didn't really make a song and dance about Ren's actual release either.

But all this matches pretty well with how it went down with 2.0 after it was announced.
"2016", and not one word all year. Took them a year to get back into it. And it still ain't done…think about it.
I woulnd't be suprised if the same happened with the new units.

I just finished watching that whole video with Mike Acosta and Jim Stout and let me tell you what I am reading into it.

Judging by there wry smiles and body language there is a new Sampler coming and I think it's going to be revealed at MusikMesse and released into the wild immediately after.

Roland has released almost all of there legacy with drum machines and synths so the only thing left is there sampler range.

With only the sp 404 left in stock and not a real flagship model then what else to do.

I think those two guys have been involved since day one and are just playing it down.

Why after 14 years do they do a show about the MV 8800. It's not to increase eBay value of existing units but to prepare us for the new version.

After watching the video Roland were so far ahead of the game it wasn't funny.

Read into it what you will but although this is an Akai forum and thread I think Akai are shitting themselves and are altering the hardware to accomodate a HDMI panel to give punters the choice of standalone with theX and ability to connect to a 4 k ready LCD in the size of your choice.

Akai have gotten wind of the impending Roland Sampler and won't to at least stay in the game.

My 2 cents worth and I have been right about the Drumbrute recently to so sometimes speculation can have an element of truth.

Cheers

Would make sense, considering they announced the units before NAMM, and especially now that things seem to take time (and all this waiting time may well have been in their plans): they wanted to be "the first" in the competition…to get the news out there first, to get preorders first, etc.
Announce it way before it's actually done.

Where is the video you mentioned? I'd love to see Roland hit the market with an announcement and then have it in stores. That'd put some nails on Akai's coffin and teach them a lesson about marketing strategy.

The video is on page 123 of this thread.

Over the last few years Roland have made a good habit of announcing something at a trade show or DJ thing in Utrecht Netherlands with the ACB Aira stuff and boom it was in shops virtually within weeks.

I am confident of this happening again and I may even cancel my preorder or the X
with Sweetwater.

One thing Roland can definitely do better than Akai is marketing.

I think most companies handle it better…and Akai has always been the worst at it.
It's like, they probably mean to do a lot of good, but somehow it feels like thorough planning isn't there…good intentions, but it's all a bit short-sighted.
Like, with the Ren…you had people sitting around a table talking about MPCs (Premier, Pete Rock) to promote hype before release, but afterwards…nothing. You had that little MPC University with Young Guru but that was all in terms of people using the device. Then what, once it was out? Nothing. You had, what, Alchemist squatting at a beach looking at MPC Studio. Whoah.

And now, putting the hype out there, then still working on on the stuff. People waving their credit cards at them in frustration, seeing all the postponed shop dates…yet, no assurance or word from the company to keep the customers, who are now leaving ship and buying other companies' stuff or whatever.

That's pretty pathetic TBH. They need a new marketing team and strategy.
