Always WAV/AIFF if possible (regrettably some of my back catalog is mp3 still). I don't really see a point in paying for lossy music these days.

Periodically, after some time not accessing the drive (usually while I'm sequencing / composing), I'll attempt to access the SSD again and get the following error: "Please eject EFI before disconnecting. failure to eject safely may result in loss of data. I'm using a Crucial MX300. Once the error clears I no longer see the SSD in the list of Places. The only way to get it back is to reboot the MPC.

Anyone else see this happen?

Yes, I'm getting this same error, and very regularly. I installed a WD 500GB SSD (today), and I initialized/formatted the drive from my MacBookPro (ExFat; GUID Partition Map). I've gotten this error all 4 or 5 times I've used/rebooted the MPC Live this evening. Don't have time to experiment tonight, but I'd love to hear from others to find out of reseating the drive or doing anything else helps.

I spoke with Akia support today, and they said they have reports of one other Western Digital SSD not working in the MPC Live. So, for now, I would not get a WD SSD for it!

Unfortunately, there are a lot more brands than just WD that aren't working. Akai support told me they're trying to figure out what's up and that it doesn't seem to be centered on one brand or one format.

Returned my Crucial drive and picked up a Samsung 850 EVO SSD (250 Gb). Just ran things for an hour and it is performing perfectly. Others have reported problems with Crucial, and others have had success with Samsung, so there you go...!

No idea - they didn't say. However, since I'm not using it (the SSD) at the moment, I'm not having any heating problems at all. Sounds like a correlation to me, but I'd hate to jump to that conclusion immediately (I'm not an engineer).

Anyone else?

I had the SSD problem, and I'm having no heat problems. My screen is doing some mild flickering every now and then, though.

Doubt any heat is coming from an SSD to cause any heating issues in the unit. And HD is a different story however.

I formatted the SSD Im using with a PC because i dont have a mac. Ntfs with highest file allocation. No issues. I also dont use the live with a computer and dont plan to.

Has anyone found a solution to the EFI ejection error?? I'm using a MacBook for formatting to exFat and whenever I reopen a project and add new elements to the project and then try to save it to my SD ssd drive I'm getting the error message and I have to turn off the unit and back on to reconnect :(

First post-

I tried a Crucial MX300 2.5 SSD (275 GB) - and got the same problems as user eyalC.
(drive not recognized or disappearing out of the blue. Also not being seen by Win10 once installed in the MCP Live)

I switched to a Samsung 850 EVO 2.5 SSD (250 GB) - so far no problems at all.
