$3.5k? The 5000 was 'street price' $2500 when it was first released as I just checked my invoice from vstservice (purchased pretty much in the first month of release) - that's with full ram, hard drive and CD burner installed. I received no deal or discount on that. Regardless, $2500 was daylight robbery for that piece of junk 5000.

I remember my 2000XL was £999 (no upgrades!), pretty much the same price as the Live is in the UK ATM. But all those comparisons are pretty pointless IMO. MPCs, like most 'pro audio' gear, have always been overpriced for the tech inside.

The board in the Live/X is 3 year old tech apparently destined for budget Android tablets - IMO that doesn't sound like the most appropriate tech to use inside an £1800 flagship, although inside the half priced, battery powered baby brother it seems like a decent choice.

Shhhhhh they don't want to hear that, I got flamed for saying the same thing

No tutor stated his opinion with facts to back it up. You came with some b's about akai not being a premium brand, and couldn't even explain yourself.

It might be over priced to some, or might be a steal for other people. Pretty sure someone getting paid to make music and this helps them itl be worth it for them. Tax write off anyway...

Overall it's cool quiet around here ever since the x's dropped. I think that's a good sign and hopefully see some heaters coming out.

I don't need to explain shit to you. Perhaps you should ask your new boyfriend what a premium brand is, although judging by his reply he doesn't seem to understand either. You can google it while you lovebirds are laying in bed, I guess.

What fuc%@$ing hell is wrong with you..?? What fuc%@$ing tone are you talking about..??
If your not a newby and did some research than don't start asking newby questions. If you've
seen videos on youtube than you would have known that the 'X' has got a touchscreen.

What Danoc said about no touchscreen is the following:

If he uses his i7 laptop he will just be as lethal as the MPC X but without a TOUCH SCREEN..!!

I understand that not everyone is that knowledgeble about the new MPC's that's why I gave you some advice

If you would read my post on this forum you would know that I'm a person that's always ready to help someone else. And sometimes I like to joke around with guys like the unf*ckwithable.

What I don't understand is that you started your post with a normal tone and sudenly flipped the switch on me and went hostile mode.

f*ck that.. We don't need that around here.

This is a comunity (The MPC Family) where we respect each other. And if you don't know how I ment something. Sent me a PM and I can explain it to you.

I believe (but I'm not sure) that your that RD Nijhuis guy on facebook aren't you? because you've dropped the same question over there.

I understand that it's frustrating to wait this long before the MPC X arrive here in the Netherlands but keep your cool man. In a few weeks from now we will join in on the fun that our U.S. brothers have.

Don't dump your frustration on someone else.. It's going to get nasty in here (That I promise you..)[/quote]

Okay  again, i thought they both had touch screens, till i misunderstood something that was said here... again, if u can give me a link to videos or anything that adress the question i asked, that would have been helpful, but no need to get nasty or mention my name on facebook (yes its me hi there  ) i Interpreted somewhat diminishing tone also because of the absence to youtube links etc. but hey if i Interpreted it wrong i apologise, although i still stand with the statement that it was a legit question.
By MPCHolland Mon Jul 31, 2017 4:41 pm
its annoying that when u ask a legit question about some gear, on a forum dedicated to said gear, some people just assume you're a hater, or that u dont know anything about that gear... maybe that does happen a lot, so the assumption make some sense... the 1,2,3 answer while not really answering, obviously i am not really feeling it , but maybe thats just me..

@MPC HOLLAND

Dam l go away and chaos breaks out wtf? LOL

YEAH we are MPC family especially those who have the machine. Not trolls!

As everyone and myself said the Live combined with my i7 laptop is just as powerful as the X. But the Live cannot on its own f*** with the X. The X is the flagship the Live is not its just sporty affordable machine that has power also. I am freakin loving this machine but lm not stupid enough to compare it to the X.

I come from a MPC 2000XL so having a 7 inch touch screen is way better than the 2000XL 2 inch screen. Smaller and mote compact than the 2000XL and has a rechargeable battery. I had to record out my 2000XL , on my live l dont have to. I can go on and on. For ME the Live is a huge stepup and modernized into the future.

Original question is the X justified by its price? I say yes. One has got to understand the manufacturers side of things if you dont then you make an opinion instead of facts. I like facts better.

We have to understand Akai been doing research for 3 years. Labor of time spent cost money! They are watching other companies like NI, Ableton live, Propeller heads etc to see what they could implement and add on to the flagship X and Live. Do people know how much it cost to do research ? Its not cheap. That cost more than to freakin get the parts and put it together. Research in touch screen, the prototype structure , adding a computer to it basically. Akai redesigned (not starting from the ground up) the software also that takes time. Akai had to revamp their internal effects also plus pay a portion of their moner to Air Music Technology for all the FREE effects and instruments!
Air stuff is top notch! From the New Hybrid 3 to the Mini Grand piano you're getting ever instrument from the Air company except 3 of their products which don't break you for the amount of hot joints you get for free! Plus Akai has to pay Capsun, mvp loops ect a portion to put their sounds in that 10 gig hard drive space we have out of 16 gigs.

Putting a 48+ pre amp on the X had research which definitely justify the cost. I can go on.

The FUNCTIONS the X has sre impeccable !
What we are looking at are two bad ass machines!
The X is a computer/drum machine /and something else all wrapped up into one.
You can rock the X without the computer period! You can take a midi keyboard attach it to the X, a condenser or tube mic and use the phantom 48+ on that thing and go to work. This is a fact. You can do a dope mix using the QLink knobs then export it as an Aiff, Wav or MP3 file. You can take all your midi notes and EXPLODE them into individual tracks. Track one is muted. Now tell me what standalone machine does that? I use to have to break up my drums manually because l don't finger my drums one by one and l did that on the mpc 2000XL. On the X and Live exploding is freakin effortlessly done! Then there's explode 2! When you export and chose that function the X/live will break your tracks up for you in wav, aiff or mp3 format. Chopping samples is so easy its ridiculous! Way better than we use to do it. What machine on this planet right now has offered 3 usb ports, 8 cv/gates/ extra slot for a hard drive, 10.1 responsive touch screen, pro fat pads, 16 QLink knobs, pads can turn into notes and scales, etc like the X or even the Live? And running all this simultaneously ! The X is a gawt dam Beast! Don't compare the X with the Live they are not the same. You don't deal with latency issues like that of a computer!

The little if what l said justify the cost of the X. If ypu like the battery option then get the live if not get the or both! If one doesn't see from my experience and not listen to Ill Green and Eyaic on coupons and the tacticle way to bargain and think you have to pay $2,199 then one is not paying attetion to these threads closely! You can get the X from 1,789 to 1,899 with the right coupon stores are offering and bargaining negotiating!

Short story. So Eyaic tells me hit up Musicians Friend csuse they had them in stock. I call MF and asked about the item the lady said its a hot item. Im like cut the chatter! I asked about the coupon they were giving and it was 15% l asked her could l get it it for 20% off and she said no. I thought quickly. I said "what if l bought 2 MPC Lives?" She didn't hesitate to give me 20% off. You think she was going to let that sale go? Hell no! $959 for the Live!
1799 to 1899 the X ain't worth it? 2,199 ain't worth it? If you sell music you can make that money back!

Bro l don't see you understanding the insides like those who have the machines. Not every youtube vid is going to explain everything there is in the X. Hell people just getting them.

As l have shown a dam MPC 3000 USED is over $3,000 and that's old technology , l ask is that a justified price for that?

Having a three year board is not so far behind as to having a 15 year board. :-)

I just gave you the facts why the X is justified in its price. Its up to you and whst suit your needs. Both machines are dope.
Remember the stores have to make a profit also!

MPC Holland here's my vid if you haven't seen it on the Live.

Peace!

now that's a reply i can work with! thanks so much, and im going to check out the video...
and i had the renaissance basically since day 1 (still kinda mad we arent getting 2.0 on our mpc but okay) i wanted to buy the mpc x from day 1 too, but its too expensive so imma rock my mpc ren just for another year and then try to get it...but yeah the mpc x is a beast, im still not sure about double the price worth, but in a ideal world i'll be able to buy both, thanks for that reply though it was truelly informative
By MPCHolland Mon Jul 31, 2017 5:30 pm
i have to ask though, what is the reason that the mpc x will function better stand alone as u said?

*As everyone and myself said the Live combined with my i7 laptop is just as powerful as the X. But the Live cannot on its own f*** with the X.

(aside from more buttons so less menudiving as someone elegantly put it) its not that the mpc x has more processing power or a more memory? or am i wrong ? they both have the same specs as far as stand-alone i thought?

Effects have not been revamped for the Live/X, they are the same as those used in the MPC Software previously in the Ren/Studio etc. No money would be paid to Air Music as it's owned by inMusic just like Akai is. This is why they can give this stuff away. Not knocking it though, it's all great stuff.

IMO the Live is clearly the better value for money - same software, same free goodies, battery power, half the price. The X is there if you need those extra hardware features, but I do think it's really odd that they didn't offer even a slight upgrade on the CPU and memory for the X. If you were buying a 15" Macbook Pro at twice the cost of the 13" model you'd expect to get at least a small CPU bump along with the hardware improvements.

If they used higher specs on the X then they would have to add more features to it to make use of those specs. That would mean a different OS for it as well. Now imagine Akai having to develop 2 different OS's, they can barely handle one.
