Just recieved my MPC-X. But cannot find a Tempo-Track like I use it on my MPC-4000. is this even possible? Furthermore there is no possibility to get into a Step-Editor to take a look at each single Note-Event. Eventually this MPC-X is going to be a worthy successor of the MPC-4000, but at the moment it's far away.

I don't exactly know what tempo track is.. I don't think I had it (I definitly did not use it) on the 5K.. But if you mean you want to change the BPM within a track.. I havent seen this function on the X yet.. but wasnt looking for it either.. Anyway.. what you could do is build a sequence with the tracks you want in the tempo you want.. then copy the sequence to another sequence en adjust the tempo of that sequence to what you want and play the first sequence and then the sequence with adjusted tempo.. That should work fine..

The X has a fine step editor.. it is called grid view.. you can see each note per pad and select them.. replace them.. delete.. and even just put it in with one press on the spot where you want it to be..

Hope this helps you!

There's no step edit (list editor) in the standalone, yet.

Grid edit is no step editor, and it's not really that fine either. For example you currently cannot edit any automation or modulation events (e.g. qlink tuning, filter sweeps, 16 levels data and so on), no editing or any type of MIDI event other than velocity and 'note' events - that is incredibly limiting for many people. You cannot even copy and paste notes in the grid editor. Akai has some way to go to get these aspects of the standalone OS in check.
But cannot find a Tempo-Track

The MPC Software does not support tempo change events in any shape or form (unlike all previous MPCs).

There is no way to change the tempo of a song except for using multiple sequences each with a different tempo, which doesn't really work if you want to perform a gradual increase/decrease. Nor will that work if you 'convert song to seq' as that will produce a single sequence with single BPM. Unfortunately 'song to seq' is pretty much a requirement if you want to do stuff like laying audio tracks across a song.

All head-scratching stuff from Akai.

Wow man for real? Every hardware mpc can do this without even blinking.

Ok my bad then.. Clearly I interpreted the question wrong.. I thought he ment the grid view.. According to the tempo track we are saying the same..

I agree with the fact that it is very strange that the X cant do things earlier MPC's could.. Seems like a step back then..

Even though I don't miss it I can understand people will miss it if they did use it before..

The X and live are new directions for AKAI/inmusic.

Regardless if one thinks they rushed these products out or not, they are here now and this is the ground floor. They still have features that will be implemented at some point. Happens a lot to a new product on market.

I can understand if this has been out for a year, but its still not even officially launched and cats complaining.. just give the company a bit of time.

It's worth remembering that the touchscreen UI is not new, it first featured on the MPC Touch back in late 2015 so Akai have had nearly 2 additional years to implement some of these missing features (plus whatever time they'd already spent working on the touch UI before it was released), list edit being one of the obvious ones as this has been in the blue screen and computer UIs for 3+ years now and TBH I fail to see how this can be in any way a difficult feature to implement.

Brass tacks is that MPC Software 2.0 is not significantly different to the 1.9 bar a new graphical look and IMO some clearly unfinished and rushed features, so while Akai will no doubt release some much needed updates 'soon', I dont think they deserve much in the way of a free ride on this. Customers need to keep the pressure on.

I think that it all had to do with the budget.. And the money they were willing to spend for this release.. Software and hardware engineers costs a lot of money.. especially to implement all the features we want.

Well they aren't even able to implement the features THEY want  Again back to LIST EDIT, they even put an actual button for that on the X, the X is released but a list editor is nowhere to be seen - surely that button made 'list edit mode' a 2.0.0 priority above most other features?

I know I sound negative, but this is all down to utter frustration, I really want these products to be GREAT, because they could be absolutely fantastic, it's an unbelievable opportunity for Akai to completely corner the market here and I assumed after 2 years additional development, most of this stuff would have been implemented and fully working by now.

Instead it is all just half finished and rushed. I mean take the standalone BROWSER. Is anyone actually happy with the way that is implemented? Akai admitted back in NAMM 2016 that the 1.9 browser needed some serious work and all they've done is add the ability to search the current folder. :WTF:

What happen to if it's in 2.0 (points to softwate) it's in the LIVE?

That was just straight up lying.

this is a new endeavor for these cats so expect bugs/lack of haver "everything" at launch (which is still a soft launch at this point). i expect them to get better and as more people submit bug reports...

cant have it all at once. work with what you got (like i've been doing for many weeks now). if one does not have faith in the company , they should not invest in it. my opinion, and YMMV... :D

I'm considering buying mpc x. Three years have passed, is the tempo track feature implemented? I couldn't read it from the manual.

Well, they have a point. It's like releasing a "new and better" MPC, but without the pads. It was basic functionality, on ALL PREVIOUS ONES. It makes no sense, keep complaining please because otherwise shit will never change.

We decide what's functionality it should have, not them. We pay them bills, not them.
