My wants is hardware, because the LIVE and 2000XL with (8 output card) and midi out are the same. The upgrade is computer integration and current storage. However if you are tracking though a mixer in real time the 2000xl win by 2 outs and digital out. So there not much of an advantage. Where the LIVE wins is with software features.

HARDWARE
I can assemble this with off the shelve parts. The tough part is reducing the footprint and the software / hardware integration. Inside the LIVE/X we are not paying for top tier components. It's pretty much a 2012 tablet. The cost is mainly RD / Software / Marketing / Tech Support / Returns / Companies Profit / Retail Mark Up.

I wonder what the cost of these machine would be if AKAI went DIRECT to consumer? I would say 30% of what the retail price is. What are your thoughts?

Yes the Live wins over the 2000xl because the XL doesn't have it's own software specifically made for it. the Live does. I agree. That software has all the Free VSTS which is dope, and you can make a song with them because they are high quality VSTs, that you could buy for Protools, I had Velvet, Hybrid, Xpand and Midi grand and bought them for Protools. So if you only had those and others Akai give you, you could make a whole entire album and it would lt would sound professional.

I get where Charles is comin from in a way.

When I first got into beat making it blew my mind how many devices (not just MPC's) had bugs or issues like bad encoders, tact switches, ect, ect. With everything else in life (phones, cars, bikes, TV's, ect, ect) they just worked. Of course there might be a phone or car here & there that had issues, but nothing like music equipment. So it was really odd to me.

As I got more into beat making I realized I liked limited gear, mainly because I like a challenge, but there is nothing more frustrating then buying a brand new piece of gear & having it break the first month due to no fault of your own or having it riddled with bugs.

So I understand that there are professional producers out there, where time is money, that would happily pay more money for a device that actually worked the way it was suppose to. Problem is, it shouldn't be that way. We shouldn't have to pay $10,000 just to get a device that works how it should.

I have no problem making full beats with a po-33 K.O. & overcoming it's limitations. But I paid $89 for it. If I paid $2,000 for a piece of gear that had bugs or cheap parts, I would be pissed. Not only that the K.O. doesn't have any bugs....I've even dropped it a bunch of times & it works fine. It's limited, but it does what it's supposed to do.

I would never pay $10,000 for an MPC....... I won't even pay $2,000....... but I get what he's sayin.

I'm not sure I agree with the 2000XL vs Live comparison tho.

It's not all software upgrades is it?

I mean Danoc, that lazy chop function, you can use it in stand alone mode right? If so, the 2000xl got nothing on that!

Live and 2kxl shouldn't even be compared to each other imo.
They are 15+yrs apart. Really?

That was my point. The 2000 XL had an 8 out analogue and digital out card, SCSI and SD card, SMPTE. While the LIVE has 6 audio outs, sd card, 2 USB, and phono. One would think the Hardware aspect of the machine would improve in that time, not just replace USB with SCSI.

Now what has improved on the LIVE is the Software features. That is night and day!

Yes, a 10K MPC is not for everyone. However, what it would do is get the Akai's engineers and staff truly excited about their jobs. Which in turn excites the clients. If you get a chance talk to some of Rupert Neve, Barefoot, or Manley staff. They are super excited about the equipment they design.

They will tell you what, how, why they decided on each component and break down their theory. That's because their talent is not limited by make it as cheap as possible. They are challenged to create the best they can and the quality of the build reflects it.

They don't just talk marketing points, they talk gear. They try to educate and inform their clients. Which is very tough to do in big corporate climate like IN MUSIC. Well....APPLE does a good job of that. But that APPLE CARE cost. :)

You’re right I’ve been lazy as **** with this forum and the endless discussions like this because I’m out makin money and the little time a do have, like an hour or two a night I’m making beats....

If bitching about companies is your top priority and benefits you then so be it. I just have a differnt mind set. Not hating on anything or anyone just stating my stance.

If you read my post, I'm not complaining. I'm discussing possible solutions with like minded individuals. If your stances is "Stop hbitchin and make some beats you lazy mfer s.", then what you are contributing does not further the conversation.

But as you just said, you spend 1 a night working on your craft. So for you it does not a matter because it's your low priority hobby. However, try using a machine for 8 to 12 hours a day, then you'll soon discover what it is missing and what it needs more of.

The Power User are the one that push the gear forward. We know it and use it better than the creators of the machine. Most of the time they (company) do not know, what their machine is lacking because their mind-state is different. That's why they always say, "Man, I did not realize you were, using it that way." I've had this talk at NAMM, SUPERBOOTH, AES,Musikmesse, and so on.
