No matter what we think, the fact is, that it cost millions to put out these machines and $900 to $1200 for the live, is right in line with the competition.

I don’t think this is a right or wrong thing.
I don’t think it’s overpriced, but not going to get worked up if someone thinks it is.

They might have a work flow that just works better with other devices. For the price, you could probably get a Mpc 4000, 404 and a Kaos pad, plenty of fire can be made with that stand alone. Cover most of the bases of the live but lacks a lot of the modern features.

Value is a very subjective thing.

I think it should have the MPC 1000 price point when the 1k first came out.

The machine is dope though. It’s hella fun making beats on it.

If everything they advertised was working right, then it would be the right price.
The problem is that they use customers as beta tester, saving money to test the unit update per update.
So they should give us MPC Live for half of the price because we worked as beta testers.

I can’t believe this convo has gone on as long as it has. Bottom line, must people who purchased this unit brand new, knew they were spending the cash. It pays to research beforehand hand before pulling the trigger.

And we all paid different prices too, so there's that.

^^^THIS!! Dropping knowledge incognito. This gives me a STRONG indication that the MPC Live/X development team may not be as big as everyone would expect. It is probably no where near the size needed to tackle all the bugs & streamline the OS for stability & reliability. This would account for all the missing advertised features in the beginning.

Yeah, but most people have known / suspected the team size issue for YEARS. The popular question is why they spend time on features that are arguably irrelevant to the core user base (Splice integration most recently), when the MPC itself is still not doing what it's advertised (and expected) to be able to.

I agree BUT the chances of inMusic Brand listening &/or actually caring about their customers' concerns is slim to none.

Judging from inMusic Brand's(Akai) actions...

Akai seems to have no interest in catering to core users. Akai's actions are geared to attract a new user demographic by adding a bunch of 'NEW' features into an already antiquated hardware system. Not much thought was put into streaming the OS to make sure that those features work well together or whether the hardware (CPU/RAM) is enough to properly handle the work load.
By Cockdiesel Tue Oct 16, 2018 9:45 pm
To be fair some of those features didn’t work in the start ableton link comes to mind.

Not sure if the Bluetooth midi works, I don’t have a way to test it and hardly see it mentioned.

Some of this is more in the legacy of the software. Fanu’s pdc, crossfade loops, portemento.

They are on the record stating that plugin delay compensation is on the road map but a ways out.

Of course akai is into getting into new markets, just take a look around here how people **** about features of all the legacy stuff and point out the most subtle of things in the differences between them.

Most MPC heads have the basics covered in a wide range of legacy products. Would you rather they just economized a Mpc 2000 gave it a few more bells and whistles and sold it for 750 like the electron digitakt?
