I've had an MPC1000 for 10+ years... I keep thinking I need a new sampler... or that I want to downgrade to something simpler like a 90s sampler (trying a 500 right now but not comparing to 1000)

I love the workflow on the 1000 - the effects are kinda garbage but whatever - the screen is perfect its so easy for me to get things done on it - but theres been problems with it on and off for the last few years as far as the pads wearing out, tact switches breaking, knobs and buttons breaking etc.

im finally getting to the point where i have to learn how to solder so i can fix it up and get it back to 100% theres really not another sampler i want - the 2500 looks cool but isnt necessary for what im doing

my question is - do you recommend soldering to fix buttons or getting a MPC 1000 Right Side PCB Board w/ Volume and Jog - UPGRADE from mpcstuff.com

also if I decide to do everything myself - do you guys have any recommendations for places to go for the same things that mpcstuff sells but for a better price?

Try using some Deoxit (for the love of God, don’t use WD40!!!) and spray around the affected rotary switches, tact switches and slide potentiometer. That might be a simple fix.

If that doesn’t work...
Getting the individual tact buttons from Mouser and soldering them in would cheaper “if” you are good at disassembly, unsoldering, resoldering and reassembly.
The tact switches you want are the ALPS 6mmx6mmx5mm #SKHHAKA010
https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/ALPS/SKHHAKA010/?qs=%2fha2pyFadugmwKgCxg3g%2fPLKF8eWCqfPGQWiLtXBGu4%3d
and ALPS 12mmx12mmx4.3mm #SKQEADA010
https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/ALPS/SKQEADA010?qs=sGAEpiMZZMtJZyIx%252bEe9J%252bR3GsA5zXJT

If you aren’t good at soldering at all (I wouldn’t practice first time soldering on a sampler), buying the board from MPC Stuff and installing the whole circuit board would be a quicker method but yet cost more money.

just ordered some deoxit from ebay - will start with that, almost got the wd40 contact cleaner at home depot but i decided against it - now i see your post and am glad i waited

i also plan on buying 25 of each of these buttons just to have some on deck - do you know if they have jog wheel post encoders at all?

im not the best at it but just bought 2 soldering kits off ebay to practice with before going live on the mpc 1000, worst comes to worst i lose money and buy a new pcb board...
