How much do you think the "bill for good programmers" would be to get clips to not stop playing just because you changed tracks, compared to the cost of developing soft synths that run in stand alone?

I agree - fixing the core features is way more important than adding new features IMO. In terms of cost though, Akai didn't develop those synths, they just integrated them - completely different cost and level of effort to integrate versus develop. Software companies do it all the time - announce features that create the perception of BIG levels of effort, when in reality it was probably cheaper to do that, rather than fix the issues that currently exist. Splice, autosampler, soft synths - all three of these have APIs for integrating, so that a software developer just needs to make the right calls and pass the right data back and forth. These integrations create the perception of big effort and cost though, when in reality it was probably easier than fixing the core features and issues people are talking about.

I Believe that NO Software is 100% Bug Free! Windows apply Updates on the regular to fix "Bugs". Akai has to have revenue to pay mofos to find bugs, address them and package Updates. One way to Generate Revenue is Appealing to New Users/Buyers. It may be more Financially efficient to drop Updates Sporadically to address as many Bug Fixes as they can.
Im from the Old School. We didn't wine about what the Old MPCs didn't have. We found a way to Work Around it and make Good Classic Music. We didn't say "Awww Man Akai needs to Make more Memory". We said speed the samples up, record it, and then slow it back down to conserve Memory...MPCs are originally designed to Make Music From Scratch. Here it is, Akai is Giving Everybody Gigs of Sounds and Drum Kits lol. And We still aint satisfied. Standalone is NOT a Full DAW. Side chaining and all that other sh*t can be created wit the Software. If I wanna use a Plug In sound, I sample it, and throw it on a Track in a KeyGroup. Wah Lah! I Put Money on it that I can come up wit a WorkAround for EVERY Gripe...$$$$$$$. One Dude Complained that he has to Hit Two Menu options to get to a screen LMAO...You gotta be kiddin me lol.
Compared to the Legacy MPCs, The Newer MPCs are on another Planet!!! Patience....is the Key

This mindset would put them out of business. The number of old heads willing to do that is dwindling, not growing. For every one of you, there's a few that moved onto new, more efficient methods. And folks now getting into music making are going to compare this to those more efficient methods. If the MPC doesn't keep up, we'll only have legacy MPCs.

The reasons we purchased a modern MPC are the reasons we want them updated; more efficiency, versatility, etc. Why manufacture/use anything beyond the 60?

I don’t Agree. If you enjoy working that way than please do so.

Of coarse stuff is never going to be 100% bug free. But at least fix the sh!t thats obviously bugging the main features.

Why go around a mountain if there is a tunnel. Okay the tunnel jammed with stones.. Clean it up..

Side chain effect manualy? Aint no body got time for that. It’s like having a flat tire and your getting a horse to pull your car home.

I’m just trying to say that there are modern ways to do things. And we shouldn’t give Akai any excuses to get away with broken or left out basic (anno 2018) features.

Keep making noise about things that are needed to bring these machines from ‘A’ to ‘Better’

Im from the Old School too. I remember when any midi sound module or sequencer that had 2 midi in ports, had them because it could receive multitimberal/multi-mode midi, perhaps up to 32 separate channels at once (2x your usual 16). All using a digital protocol developed in 1983. Why else have more than 1 midi in port on a device?

Before buying, I remember it being falsely advertised that anything that can be done in the software can be done on the hardware with the exception of soft synths and having more than 8 audio tracks. Turns out the the "work around" for seeing automation lanes displayed next to your tracks is to use the software.

Back in the old days we used to have to make music by banging sticks together and shaking old shoe boxes full of cold gravel, COLD gravel mind, not your new fangled hot gravel! Then when Skiffle came along I got my first washboard and thought to myself "what a time to be alive". ;-)

Yes I enjoy making Music in a way that Challenges me. If things were laid out easy for me, I would get bored. Which is what happened when I went the All Software Route.

I agree...Akai should Multitask and handle Software Bug Issues at same time, introducing New Features.

In this case...There is No Tunnel...You're asking Akai to Dig out a Tunnel to make it easier for you lol. Instead of Trek-ing over the Mountain lol. We have Nothin but "Time" to figure out ways to make good Music.

If I have A Flat Tire, I'll say "Hmmm why not Put the Donut Tire on the Car". I Wont say "Why isn't there a Full Size Tire In the Trunk?" lol Me...I like to work with what I have.

Compared to the Legacy Standalone Products of the past...Akai has brought them from "A" to "Better" lol

At the end of the day...I agree with you ;) :worthy:

Deja Vu My man...This already happened when Akai went all software/Hardware Controllers, to appease New Age Beatmakers. I purchased mine because of its Standalone Capabilities w/the ability to communicate with Software for things that the Hardware couldn't handle. IMHO...Akai were targeting us Old School Producers when they re-introduced Standalone Units.

All im sayin is If we're patience yet stay persistent in demanding Bug Fixes, Akai will address the Bugs and Lack of Features. :worthy:

Yes, it's going quite good, isn't it?
New updates are a good step ahead.
I guess that implementing new features from Air company was much easier then fixing codes problems, maybe the more features they add the more complicated is the architecture of OS becomes.
I am just guessing, because sometimes I cannot understand why some bugs have not been addressed in more then one year while new synths and autosamplers just blossomed in a while.

I really really hope we get to see more features , on the sample -editing side though.

Again: im new to the platform but i feel like there is a real dearth of ways to creatively manipulate sample playback. I hope more options are added.

What are the chances of a breakoff / custom OS a la JJOS??? Isnt it based on a linux OS ?? Maybe there is some hackabikity therr

Modern Cars like mine don’t come with a spare tire.

From A to Better:

The new MPC’s are indeed a step in the right direction, but to be better than previous models you need to be able to do the same things, maybe even better with the addition of new things. You need to make wise choices as what to bring back and what should be removed like old standards (like CF slots)

We’re not asking Akai to dig the tunnel. The tunnel is already there, we just need the passage to be bug free. And for them to make the units as advertised (automation lanes).

You said more than that. Folks are whining about trivial things while you're walking uphill both ways to the studio. You brag about your work around ability, but you own a modern MPC and want bugs fixed. Less bugs, more efficiency, less reliance on software... we all want different things out of the same machine. All I'm saying is miss us with the insults & negative connotations.

And I'm not even a new age beat maker.

You have to admit that's an unconventional way to look at things, not everyone is looking for more complicated ways to do what they love. You see, "if things were laid out easy for me", I'd just make more music instead.

I'm part of that crowd that believes UX design and quality control were never a "nice-to-have" but are actually an essential part of product design, and even more so when it comes to electronic instruments/production tools. I use my Live daily, I just wish more of that time was spent making music instead of looking for workarounds...

the 60 came out in the 80's with 750kb of ram expandable to 1.5mb (double) for hundreds of dollars (maybe 700 or more dollars for that expansion) However... that was pretty amazing for those times.. the specs were really good at that time even looking at current computers.. you maybe had an atari 1040ste with an s900 that had 1mb of ram for the whole computer and samples were kept on the s900... while the 60 had up to 1.5 dedicated to sample time.

The 3000 in the early to mid 90s had 32 megs of ram (with the expansion)... which a lot of computers at that time were running 8mb expandable to 24 or 32 megs... again, not storing samples on board... the 3000 had 32 megs dedicated entirely to sample time..

The 4000 back almost 20 years ago was expandable to 512mb of dedicated to samples ram.... at that time my computer had around that... I believe i had an AMD athalon 1.98ghz with 512, that years later i replaced with 3 gigs.

the mpc live has 2gb of ram, not dedicated to sample time like every hardware mpc before it (understandable the way tech is build these days) the 2gb is system ram and samples get stored within that. My phone from 3 or 4 years ago has 4gb of ram, my pc of 3 or 4 years ago has 16gb of ram... this tech is cheap these days compared to back in the day.... they should have put more than 2gb of ram in these new machines IMO.

The point is, akai has always been current or ahead of the tech standards of the era when releasing new models... but not with this latest hardware model. Does that mean they can't be clever and efficient with code? No, these guys have done a great job on the OS in the live IMO...

The issue is, there is no current day equivalent that you can use on the live that is similar to speeding records to 45 to make the samples shorter....

Also, I wish akai would give the option to go back to the old GUI for the effects and the synths... this new one with the picture with the knobs is not as good IMO.
