Sounds like you're considering a purchase, cool. Personally I would not consider a new device with new upgrades to software somehow tested by older devices with older software. I think they're very likely to get it right, but I would be very surprised if it had less bugs out the door than 2.3 has right now, just different ones.

The considerations is always there, because it's about continuous learning. When it comes to gear, it's all about the hands on approach and keeping an open mind. We must have enough confidence in our skill set, to approach ideas from a different angle. I've found people let their comfort and ego get in the way of their own progression.

The end goal for me is the music. Not the gear.

I see in the bboytech video he shows the qlinks in sample edit mode.

Start -100,
start 1000,
end 100
end 1000
Loop
Loop zoom
Scroll
zoom

Why doesn’t the Live get the ability to change the orientation of the knobs?

I want to see how audio tracks work on the force and then I may go ahead and pre order it.

Yeah I see it now, Im on another page. Thanks

Now why in the hell didn't they put more Ram in that and we have that already in the Live/X. :hmmm:

Runs on 2 gb of RAM. But the AKai OS uses 4gb of space.

@ Danoc

Yes I thought the same.
Why not putting 4gb or even 8gb?
Its cheap nowaday and it would solve
many problems

Ah, so it looks like Akai got stuck on a 2gb motherboard.
Mmm. They will have to find a solution soon, its gonna be not enough as they put more features to sell more.
Cannot they use another board?

I'm sure they will eventually use another board, iPad is on what the 7th generation now?
MPC Live v2 etc. If they're smart they do this. More or less what they've done in the past right? If I reach a limit as it stands I just hook it into the computer though. so there's that

I don’t think that we need more Ram. People should learn to go stand alone just to get the idea running and hook it up to the computer to finish the project.

We should learn that we shouldn’t expect lamborghini (i7 + 16Gb ram) power when not Tethered to it.

The CPU (RK3288) supports 4GB maximum, but yeah, they could've put that on. The board is made by a company called Radxa. I've heard rumours that InMusic/Akai bought them outright, but I don't know if it's true. The board (Radxa Rock) is not available for separate purchase anymore, but it did actually exist in a 4GB variant.

The CPU, RAM and eMMC are on a board together that is is easily replacable. They could make a new one with a faster processor and RAM without having to change anything internally, all the ports, controllers, and audio related stuff is one separate boards. I've no idea if they will, it'd be a first in the industry I think, but technically it's quite feasible.

But TBH I don't personally think RAM or performance is much of an issue either. Upgrading from 2GB to 4GB but keeping the CPU would fragment the user base for not much benefit. Upgrading the whole thing might be allow them to do things that's impossible with the current hardware, but they'd have to spend a lot of time upgrading the foundations of the OS and making sure everything still worked as before. They've already made a OS solid base and can iterate on the application now (and branch out with things like the Force), I think it'll be a while before we see hardware upgrades or new versions. But I'm just guessing.

Yes until now is ok.
But I swear in a year or so it will start to be a problem.
More powerful fx and synths need more power, have you seen for example the new Hype is not coming to Live now because the internal sd of Live is not powerful enough?
I think they are working with a very narrow limit, and they are making a kind of miracle.

You've misunderstood. The Live has a 16GB MicroSD card in there, just like the Force. It's just already got 10GB of factory content on there, and Hype is another 10GB, so there's not enough space. Dan has said on Gearslutz that you will be able to install Hype on the MPCs if you have a SATA drive. And of course, it's an SD card like what's in cameras. They can just start shipping bigger ones if they want.

You're right that synths and effects will tax the system, but after disk streaming it'll be the CPU more than the RAM that's the issue, I am quite sure of this.
