not entirely true. it loads the program into whatever 'drum' slot you tell it to.

Loading my conga program... Now that the conga program is loaded, my kick, snare, HH pattern plays the conga program sounds instead of the beat I had going on. Yes, the original program gets pushed to DRUM 2, but I lose all of my pattern work.
when you go to program screen the first thing it asks you is which drum slot you want to edit. say your kick snare and hh program are on drum1, well then just choose drum2 when you go into program mode, and then set drum2 to yer conga program. if you have to use the 'load' screen because you didnt already have your congas loaded into memory, then its still a very simple fix to go into program edit, select drum1, and set that back to yer kick/snare/hh program.

again you are misunderstanding how it works. you don't need to do this editing that you suggest, but if you did, it would take maybe 30 seconds to set the correct drum assignment on every track the sequence could handle. yes its time consuming, a whole minute maybe, get used to it or try a different mpc.

its really not that bad, and yes your needs are simple, but you've got some false roadblocks holding you back. just adjust your methods slightly and you will be able to do what you want very simply.
one final note, i would probably squeeze my congas and drums into the same program, likely on a different pad bank, but THAT would be a time consuming thing to set up at this point (maybe 5 minutes to manually copy an entire program pad by pad once you get in the groove).
