Will deleting samples that are in use cause problems?

I'd like to downsize my library by throwing away samples here and there that I don't really use. If some of these samples previously have been used and saved with a project, could deleting them cause any problems other than the sample now being missing from the project? So will its sequence still have MIDI info like note on off etc, or will the sequence be gone, or will the project not work at all, or will my MPC Live freeze up for good to never work again ever?

Make sure you save your Sequences,programs,tracks etc. and then you can do whatever you want..Delete and purge and you’re golden..

It should only cause a problem if you Delete the Samples from within the Project Folders. IMHO

Thanks for the swift answer. However I'm still confused. Do I need to back up all my projects in case they use samples I want to delete, or is it enough that they are already saved with programs, samples and everything?

I ask because I've lost work on my V-synth because samples that my projects were "pointing to" were no longer present on my memorycard due to me f'cking up and deleting samples by mistake from the memory card.
So the MPC Live doesn't work that way, and as long as I have saved all my project WITH programs and samples(I have), the samples are still there, even if I remove them from the folders they were placed in when I made those projects?

Man throw a 1tb ssd in there and stop worrying about space.... yes as long as you saved your projects with samples, they will not point to the original files..

When you save a project file the MPC creates copies of the original samples and places them in the unique project folder. This means your project is completely self contained and portable and hence can delete the original source files from your library if you wish, the MPC does not reference those in any way.
