I don't know whats going on but Ive been saving my program and kits to an SD card and have been finding I'm maxing out the Live if I load all the kits and programs Ive made.. BUT when I take the card out and look up how much data is on it on my mac.. it says its only about 150mb of stuff.. how is this possible? the live is supposed to have almost a gig of usable memory right?

Its not my machine either because I did the exact same test on a brand new MPC X at the music store and it also ran out of room

really confused about this.

Maybe you're loading all the sounds associated with the programs?

That 1gb is a dynamic workspace while the machine is on. It is not only for your samples.
Maybe like Scrawny said you are also autoloading things you don’t even know about.

You can read this very informative review from MPC-Tutor and how the new MPC's are handling the available memory:
https://www.mpc-tutor.com/how-much-memo ... ive-mpc-x/
Basically it doesn't matter what size your samples are even if they're small sized MP3's.When you load or sample audio into your MPC is that it is stored as 32 bit floating point. Also are you purging your samples after deleting them?Another good practice is to load all your samples as mono except of course the one's you'd like to be in stereo..There's not need for your kicks, snares, bass etc. to be in stereo except if you like it for artistic reasons..

So purging will remove unmapped samples from ram.. but is there a way to do the same process to remove unused samples from its associated storage media?

so I can just make sure I load everything I use and trash the rest.

Is sample management any easier with the MPC software than trying to work it on the machine?

I'm thinking storage media management is your responsibility.

Yes, but it's not really a function of the MPC, but you, the operator. Typically, what I do, is to keep a folder for each MPC Program. That way, I know what samples goes with it, and you could create a new folder, re-store (after purge) in the new folder, delete the old folder and rename the new folder again. Cumbersome when the UI doesn't provide a reasonable flow of taps or button pushing. Reasonable of course depends on how much you organize around. Some overdo, and some not so much.

One reason it is a complex situation is because the MPC wouldn't know if you want to keep the excess samples on the storage media or if it is used in some other program (it could search, but every time?), AND (this is a big one), I wouldn't want someone else, or some buggy software, make "logical" (to someone else) decisions on how I want or not to store, or what to keep/discard, etc. for me, or do other random "things" ("cleanup"). I want to make such decisions myself.

Even bigger software vendors have tried and ultimately ended up with keeping track of libraries on the side. I've used two or three different computer software and although it may work while using a single software, I always come back to my own way. One rarely fits all. :)

thats a good point.. I think I may have found a solution by saving projects.. that way I can tailor whats in my project instead of loading in my whole list of possible programs, I can just load the ones I need as I go, and save my new project if I end up adding more programs.. I hadnt been using projects at all before and just tried to load everything I had into ram every time.

That sounds like a good plan.

Load up a few basics that you think you may need and add as you go.
