Controlling Your DAW?

I use the Live standalone, but slaved to Studio One. Near perfect as I can do my standalone MPC thing, but also trigger drum, percussion & bass plugins when needed. Problem is...

The transport controls don't work on Studio One when in standalone. To my knowledge, the only way I can get that is to use Controller Mode. I'd be OK with that as I'm not relying on the software for anything, but because the software doesn't feature MIDI out (at least that's what I assume the problem is), I then can't trigger plugins when needed.

Anyone with similar needs have a hack or work around? As implied, I want both the ability to trigger plugins in my DAW and have transport control.

You say you already use your live as standalone, slaved to studio one. How do you exactly use it if the transport controls from studio one to the mpc don't work? I fail to miss that point..

An easy fix what would work for sure is making the mpc the master and studio one the slave.

I guess I wasn't clear. When in standalone and slaved, transport controls on the Live don't control S1.

S1 can't be slaved.

Transport controls on the Live do work in S1 when in Controller Mode, but I don't want to use Controller mode because I lose control of virtual instruments.

I'm looking for a work around, hoping someone knows something I don't.

Record your mpc tracks as audiotracks in studio one and then continue on studio one with your vstis and plugins. Or alternatively, use the explode export function on the mpc and then import everything in studio one.

Im Pretty sure Studio One can receive MMC messages. After setting it up in Studio 1, you'll have to set your MPC to Send MMC

Thanks folks. The Presonus link looks promising though very similar to what I've already tried.

The vid is using Controller mode, however, exactly what I'm trying to avoid as it will eliminate control of virtual instruments in S1. I actually used that very vid only to find the issue with Controller mode and VIs.

Not sure how recording my MPC tracks to audio helps. Again, maybe I wasn't clear.

I wasn't sure what to look for after finding out S1 couldn't be slaved. No need to be condescending. Searches are not simple when you don't know what to search for. I had not come across that article in my previous searches.

You should be able to control the S1 Transport without going in to Controller mode.

You can use the Network MIDI driver and see if it works for you. Im 'working' on it with Logic but its been a bit of a pain so far. It works but the MPC cant stay in sync long enough to play even half a song. See the post I made on it for all the instructions.

The MPC has to be the slave. Akai didn't make that as the master

I've tried this a number of times and can't get it to work in standalone. Prior to creating the post, I set it up in controller mode with no problems following the vid bees80 posted. But again, controller mode is useless to me as the software can't send MIDI out to other tracks, and need control of my drum & percussion VIs.

For whatever reason - I'm hoping one of you can help me with that - Play/Start and Stop (after clicking twice) are the only ones that add a button to the set up window (described under MIDI Learn, #4 in the link bees80 posted). But the buttons that are added are labeled CC 64 (sustain/damper) and CC 123 (all notes off) respectively. So no wonder they don't work after assigned.

Anyone actually have Studio One and a Live (or X) to try this? It would help me to know if this is a LIve or S1 issue, or if I'm doing something wrong.

Im trying this right now. Im opposite. I want to control the MPC plugin in Controller mode but I want the note data to record into my studio one grid instead of the mpc grid...... The mpc software is trash compared to studio one. Is this possible? Like I can do everything else in the plugin I just need note data to go to presonus. I cant figure it out. Its reading transport controls through midi in controller mode but not the pads....... freaking akai.

Akai said the plugin doesn't send midi out, but there's a poster here that said he's able to do it. From what I remember, he didn't do anything special. But I've not been able to pull it off.

I've settled on doing sketches in standalone then exporting the midi and finishing in S1. I'd be happy to use the plugin in S1 if I could get it to send midi out to S1 tracks. It would be a major time saver and boost to my workflow.
